00:00A more exotic looking and exclusive version of the Bugatti Chiron hypercar, the Devo is a study in aerodynamics.
00:09Its name pays homage to French racing driver Albert Devo, who won the prestigious Targa Florio endurance race twice in the 1920s behind the wheel of a Bugatti.
00:21True to form, the French automaker has put a cap on production.
00:25It will build only 40 examples of the Devo, all of which have been spoken for.
00:32Compared with the Chiron, the Devo's key enhancements include an upgraded suspension, additional weight savings and all kinds of aerodynamic wizardry.
00:43While both Bugatti models look outrageous, it's not difficult to tell them apart.
00:48If it has a dorsal fin, a carved-up hood and cheese grater taillights under an enormous wing, you're looking at the Devo.
00:57What's new for 2020? A new model in the lineup. The Devo entered production earlier this year.
01:04We expected the first examples to reach customers sometime in 2021, but the COVID-19 pandemic may delay things.
01:12Pricing and which one to buy. The price of the 2020 Bugatti Devo starts at $5,800,000.
01:21The decision on which one to buy is simple, as there's only one spec and very few options.
01:27But unless you know a guy who knows a guy who owns a Chiron, you're probably not going to get your hands on one.
01:34Before the car made its official debut in Monterey, California in 2018, the company had shown it to a small group of Chiron customers who snatched them up.
01:45Engine, transmission and performance.
01:48In the middle of this all-wheel-drive hypercar sits an 8.0-litre W16 engine with four turbochargers that help the Devo develop a mere 1,500 horsepower.
01:58The Koenigsegg Jesko and Lotus Evija have it beat, with power peaks of 1,600 and 1,972 horses, respectively.
02:07Backed by a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, this beast of an engine comes courtesy of the Chiron.
02:15Bugatti claims the Devo will accelerate to 62mph in just 2.4 seconds, and that it can hang on through a corner with an astonishing 1.6 Gs of grip.
02:26Although we doubt we'll have the privilege to pilot a Devo, we have driven the Chiron and can only assume its diabolical alter-ego,
02:34which weighs a claimed 77 pounds less and takes greater pains to manage the airflow around it, outshines it on the track.
02:42Fuel economy and real-world MPG.
02:45It's unlikely we'll ever see one of these things in the wild, let alone test it on our 200-mile fuel economy loop.
02:51But if you want a fuel-efficient vehicle, you'd do better to look elsewhere than Bugatti.
02:57For reference, the Chiron, which shares its powertrain with the Devo, earns EPA-estimated ratings of 9 Nilsero in the city, 14 MAU on the highway, and 11 MEC combined.
03:09Interior, comfort, and cargo.
03:12It's hard to outdo the Devo's fanciful exterior, but its wow-inducing interior comes close.
03:18The cabin's symmetrical layout incorporates an asymmetrical color scheme, where the driver's side is highlighted in Devo Racing Blue and the passenger's side in black.
03:29The seats offer tremendous lateral support, or so we're told, and the steering wheel comes partially wrapped in faux suede, with two large paddle shifters on either side.
03:40In an effort to save weight, Bugatti kept sound insulation materials and storage compartments to a minimum.
