From its dark and intense journey steeped in Norse mythology to being unexpectedly intimate - where we follow Senua as she battles external foes as well as her inner critics- it provides a compelling portrayal of mental illness without resorting to cheap scare tactics or stereotypes.
Ninja Theory deserves credit for crafting such an engaging tale without resorting to cheap thrills or cliches using graphics more than anything to open the window to the brain of a disturbed person.
What really struck a cord with me about Senua: the way that its narrative unfolds. Rather than following an orderly path from point A to B, its world itself bends and warps as Senua struggles internally - moving between vibrant forest settings to nightmarish structures is truly immersive, reminding the player constantly about her struggles within.
