This morning's blistering heath was not enough to stop hundreds of school children from taking part in a triathlon in Corby today (Tuesday).

00:00Okay, so this event has been going on for many years now and effectively we invite the
00:10local schools to bring their kids along to get them into triathlons, so as you can see
00:15behind us they do a swim in the pool, they do a couple of laps on the bike and they finish
00:20off with a run and then get themselves a medal.
00:23Effectively it's an event to bring the community together, it's to get young people into
00:29sports for a healthy lifestyle and it's something that the whole community really do put value
00:37on.
00:38I meet people at work in their 30s that say they've done the Kids of Steel, they want
00:42to come back and volunteer and everyone you talk to either has done it or knows someone
00:46who's done their Kids of Steel and people wear that t-shirt and the medal with pride.
00:51Well you only need to look at the parents who are sat looking through the window there
00:56at the pool and on the finishing line clapping, there's an immense amount of pride both in
01:01coming together for an event like this and seeing their own kid participate, so for the
01:07kids themselves they're beaming with smiles even on a hot day like this they're all happy
01:12and the parents and for the whole community for us to be able to put this event on year
01:16after year is a credit to the business and the community and the Brownlee Foundation
01:21who we work with.
01:22I kind of missed it last time, I had a change of plan and therefore I wasn't able to make
01:26it, so I thought it was good for me to be here and get a sense of what happens in terms
01:33of getting the kids out for a day, oh it's brilliant, it's nice to see the little kids
01:42up and about and more importantly it's also nice to see the parents watching the kids
01:48do the stuff, it's nice to have them out and do these little bits of stuff.
01:53I think it's about the community feeling, I think these kind of events bring kids, parents
02:00from different parts of the town, different parts of the city, different schools together,
02:05I think it's about community, about the feeling of community and meeting with the others which
02:12I think is extremely important given where we are with the kids these days, it's really
02:17nice to have them outdoors, mix with the kids, do a bit of the physical stuff and have
02:23a good day all in all.
