00:00We've been talking about this one for quite a while, but you've been living with it for quite a bit.
00:05I heard you just finally locked two. Was it last night?
00:09Yeah, it was literally last night.
00:11What is it like to now have one and two totally in the can, three in production?
00:17When you think about the success of these movies, how do you define that when it comes to this franchise?
00:24I see them as an American story that you can invest in, that you can understand that each one gets harder.
00:34As opposed to reaching the end of the movie and suddenly, oh, things got easier.
00:38They don't. In the West, it got harder.
00:40And so does this movie, and these characters all have to dig in to survive.
00:45Is that true for you in making them? Each one gets harder?
00:48I have had to dig in, and I have had to call on things I didn't know that I was going to have to.
00:53But I've also felt really lucky that I could actually guide this process.
01:00Lucky enough that I could make it. I do feel lucky.
01:03I know Hayes was always the dream. He was always who you wanted to play.
01:07But as you started to watch your other actors dive into this, dig into it,
01:11was there any other character you were a little jealous you didn't get a chance to do?
01:15I don't covet other things. I don't covet something that's not mine.
01:21I have to ask you about your Hayes.
01:23Your son has been getting rave reviews for his performance.
01:26When you watched him on the big screen in Cannes,
01:29what was that moment like for you to see them and to have many of your kids with you to enjoy that moment?
01:36I was glad that he could see himself succeed. I think every parent wants that.
01:41I haven't pushed my children into this business. It was a smaller role.
01:45I know these roles are coveted, but I saw a chance to have him with me
01:49and to see how he performed. He really added to the movie.
01:53You're off working already on three.
01:57Who are the few people who know what happens at the end of this saga?
02:03I know you've been keeping a lot of this close to the vest.
02:05Who knows what happens in four? Who have you given these scripts to?
02:08If I tell you, you're going to start running them down.
02:10You're right.
02:11Trying to find out who's on the jury. Let's stop with that.
02:15It's my job.
02:18You posted to social media the other day about Yellowstone not coming back.
02:24Why was social media the way you wanted to do it?
02:26Why was now the right time to share that information?
02:29I've been talking to the press for the last month and a half.
02:35They've been asking me the same questions.
02:38I just finally tried to go to the people that have been following me
02:41and let them know that this was a moment to really step off.
02:45We'll see what the future is, but this was the moment to say,
02:49we're stepping off.
02:51Riding off into the sunset to the movies.
02:53Well, I'm not going anywhere.
02:56Thank you.
