00:00So there isn't, I would say, a specific woman of the year because that to me is pigeon-holing
00:06women and let's face it, that happens all the time and we don't need to be putting any
00:11more pigeon holes.
00:12The 20 finalists for the Merseyside Women of the Year Awards 2024 have been recognised
00:17for their work supporting and improving the lives of people in Merseyside and beyond.
00:23The nominations and then whoever and whatever comes in, if everybody's welcome.
00:29So it's from every single sector of the community and from everywhere because that's where women
00:35should be, everywhere.
00:38The annual celebration of exceptional women from across the region takes place at the
00:41Crowne Plaza on Friday 28th June with Pauline Daniels hosting the event.
00:46What we recognised in that room was women who were just making a difference without
00:49making a fuss, they were just doers and we really connected with that so we got involved.
00:55First as a category sponsor for a few years and then last two years as a headline sponsor.
01:00The overall Merseyside Woman of the Year will be selected from all finalists, following
01:04a public vote contributing 50% of the overall score and being marked by the organisation's
01:10judging panel against its criteria, contributing the remaining 50% of the final score.
01:15Women are out there making a difference but quietly getting on with it but they're the
01:20ones that make the impact, that don't throw themselves at the front to take the glory
01:25but just are quite happy making sure that everything is being done to help others and
01:30to sort of like, you know, bring economic value and equality to the area.
01:34What we've tried to do as well between the awards is bring back together post-Covid all
01:39the previous finalists, not just winners but finalists and what's flowed from that are
01:43just fantastic collaborations so it's just been an absolute pleasure and privilege to
01:47be involved.
01:49As well as the overall winner, the finalists who hailed from Liverpool, Wirral, Sefton,
01:52St Helens, Knowsley and Halton compete in categories including Community Leader, Entrepreneur
01:58and Social Impact.
