Brody Benson reflects on his 11-goal spree against Buninyong in the CHFL round 10.
Transcript
00:00Well, Brodie, what a day. You had 11 goals against Bunion, a career best, 6 in the first quarter. Tell us all about the start of the game.
00:10I had some great entries from my teammates and was lucky enough to not miss some. I don't really know what to say, but it was a good feeling, that's for sure.
00:22You got more or less isolated. They put you deep, took everyone up the field and opened up the ground for you. Obviously you were able to take advantage of that and the delivery into that area must have been spot on.
00:35Yeah, so I just got left there one-on-one in the square and the entries were superb. They just put me out in front and let on to them. I can't complain at all.
00:45Okay, 6 in the first. What about the second?
00:48The second, I had a pretty quiet one. I think I kicked two points, so I went into half-time still on 6.
00:53Alright. You're thinking about team, but in the third quarter you've got among the goals again, which has obviously helped the Saints get a bit of a break on Bunion, which is the most important thing.
01:05You're edging closer to double figures, a rare opportunity. Your thoughts at three-quarter time?
01:11Yeah, it's definitely in the back of your head, but you're trying to stay grounded. A couple of opportunities came my way. I missed an easy one and thought I'd blew my chance, but no, it came.
01:20Great feeling, but yeah, as you said, team first always, so just trying to keep it in the back of the head and not think about it too much.
01:26You brushed over that miss, but it was only about 15 metres out and there might have been a thought about dragging you at that point.
01:32Yeah, I wouldn't have been surprised if Clay decided to drag me. It probably would have been deserved, to be honest.
01:38Eleven goals. You must be almost pinching yourself.
01:41Yeah, it was a great day, but yeah, credit to all my teammates.
01:46I think you previously kicked eight, was it, in a junior game?
01:49Yeah, a junior game was eight.
01:51Alright, tell us about the season so far. It's a tight competition. Every win is so important. You bounced back at the weekend and got the points after dropping a game against Stalesford.
02:02What's the team psyche going forward, because it's got to be a tight finish for a place in the finals right across the board.
02:10Yeah, it's looking very tight in that top eight. Yeah, it was great to get the win against Buniong.
02:14It was a real shame to drop it against Stalesford, but as you said, they were just a better team on the day.
02:19But yeah, each game's important, no matter who you've got.
02:22We've got Warper this week, so we're still the same mindset going into them as we did against Buniong and Bungaree.
02:27So, try and pinch that one as well and get the four points leading into the bye.
02:31How important do you think the experience of playing finals last year could be in some of these games coming up?
02:38Because in the last six weeks of the final after the break that's coming up, it's going to be like a final almost every week.
02:46Yeah, I think that's going to help prepare us, especially going into the back half of the year.
02:50We've got a pretty tough draw, especially the last couple of games.
02:54So, it'll definitely be great to have that experience, especially for myself being a first-year player last year.
02:59So, just that sort of ease of mind going in and stuff, so yeah, it'll be good.
03:03Alright, so perhaps in the next few games you might have to pass off a few goals to some team-mates, what do you reckon?
03:09Yeah, over some people, so definitely we'll be looking for that.
