Leeds United will travel to Germany this summer as part of their pre-season schedule, but fans have been urged not to attend.
Transcript
00:00Leeds' pre-season tour has been confirmed as Germany, Daniel Farke returning to his homeland,
00:07but obviously there are complications surrounding that, which Leeds United released on Wednesday.
00:13Graeme, can you give us a bit of a rundown on why that might be the case and what the procedure is?
00:19Well, we knew they were going to Germany, but we started to get rumblings about a week,
00:27maybe a week ago, that the club were having some issues with attendance at games in Germany,
00:34and it's a simple matter of resources on the German end, because the police forces
00:41are obviously at full stretch for the Euros, as they would be in any country, and when the Euros
00:49is on and when it comes to an end, the police resource will fluctuate, because I imagine a
00:54lot of people are not having their annual leave during the Euros, and they'll need to have that
01:00when they come to an end. It just seems a case of bad timing and bad location, to be honest.
01:09You could take issue, and lots of people have taken issue, with the fact that they're
01:13pressing ahead with Germany anyway. You think, could you not have just gone to Portugal,
01:19could you not have just gone to Spain, or Italy, or Switzerland, Austria,
01:27somewhere where the Euros is not taking place, that's also maybe sunny? You want warm weather,
01:33but you also want your fans there, and the fans want to be there. The fans want to be there.
01:38It's not a completely losing-your-head job, unless, of course, you'd managed to get yourself
01:43a free pass from your missus or your husband, and you were going to get to go out with your
01:49mates and enjoy some warm weather and some Leeds United, then maybe there is a case for
01:54total head loss. But I can understand the frustration of people who were planning to
01:58go and see Leeds somewhere in Europe this summer, that Leeds are going to Europe,
02:04and the fans can't come. There'll be two or three games, and there's lots of people that
02:09like to be at every single game, regardless of where that is. So, for those people, it's very,
02:14very disappointing, and they will be saying, well, you probably should have foreseen that the Euros
02:19was on.
