00:00Hi! What's up, director?
00:03Oh, nothing much. You know, chillin'.
00:05What was it like saying action for the first time on the set of The Bear?
00:10Cool.
00:12Did you rehearse?
00:13No. No, you just do it.
00:16How does that conversation happen? Do you go to them and say, I want to direct?
00:20It happened kind of naturally. I've known Chris since I was like 21 or 22.
00:24And I am a writer, and I don't have as many credits these past few months as I have before,
00:32but we met because of TV writing, and he was like, you are a director, you're a producer,
00:38and kind of as I've grown, he's sort of continued to, I don't know, support me.
00:44And so, yeah, season two I was just shadowing pretty much every day,
00:47and then that kind of led to season three.
00:50Now, when you're directing, your castmates have been your castmates.
00:54You know, you're sort of in that boss position.
00:56Was there anything that was uncomfortable? Like, were you like, oh, do that again?
01:00No, well, no, because, you know, I'll just say, I'll shout out the DGA.
01:04They have a class for first-time TV directors, and I got to take that class.
01:08And a lot of that class is comprised of people who have also worked in the industry,
01:13but they haven't directed before.
01:15And so we got to have amazing conversations from different vantage points,
01:19writers, editors, ADs, other actors, on, you know, what it's like being directed,
01:25you know, your experiences with directors.
01:27And I think a lot of that conversation, like, really informed how I got to be,
01:32during prep and on set, yeah.
01:34I didn't realize they have a class for it.
01:36The DGA rules. I love my guild.
01:39I love all my unions, but I'm shouting out the guild at this very moment.
