IRS Issues Rare Public Apology to Billionaire Ken Griffin Over Leaked Tax Records

The IRS issued a rare public apology to billionaire Ken Griffin after a former IRS contractor, Charles Littlejohn, leaked his tax records to the media. Littlejohn was sentenced to five years for unauthorized disclosure of tax returns, including Griffin's. Littlejohn had provided Griffin's tax information to the non-profit news site ProPublica, which published details on how wealthy individuals minimized their taxes. Griffin is the founder of hedge fund Citadel and is worth $42 billion, making him the 34th richest person in the world. The IRS breach prompted Griffin to sue the IRS and Treasury Department, but he has since dropped the lawsuit.
