CAN the Pirates win without Jordan Worboys and Mick Henry?
That's the question On The Bench co-host answered in this week's segment
Transcript
00:00Welcome to this week's segment of On The Bench, brought to you of course from the
00:06Tenya Bridge Studio. We're back at our traditional home this week after
00:10venturing up to Port Macquarie last weekend and we thank Marty Borg from The
00:14Port News for organising that for us and of course Bo Champion from the
00:17McLean Mustangs who was an absolutely outstanding guest I might say. It was a
00:22very good, very good segment and again thank you Bo. I'm thinking Marty will be
00:25back there in a couple weeks time in Port Macquarie. I'm not sure who he'll be
00:28talking to but I'm sure Marty will get someone for us to have a yarn to.
00:32Morning Gary, how are you mate? Morning Mick, yeah very good today. It's a little bit cold isn't it?
00:36It is a bit. But we are. We know aren't we? We are. The only two of us here today, I'll tell you, it was a bit of a deja vu for me this week Gary.
00:43I felt like I was back in the old poppers back on Friday nights when we were watching
00:46The Beans. I've got that many knockbacks. I think I've punched half a dozen people that kept me on the
00:53show this weekend but got none because for varying reasons but anyway that's
00:57okay. The old combination, we'll be alright. We mightn't get many viewers but we'll be okay.
01:02We'll enjoy ourselves anyway. Anyway and of course on the benches as usual
01:06sponsored by our great friend, classic design journalist from Taree, Chris
01:09Molanis and the Menning Hotel Play of the Week. A voucher from the
01:14Menning Hotel goes to Jontie Hemingway from the Wingham Tigers league tag side.
01:18She had an outstanding game as the Tigers defeated Ulba last Saturday at Ulba.
01:23They only graded the Tigers 1. So well done Jontie, we'll get that voucher to you by Mitch Collins so you'll
01:28probably get it about November when Mitch remembers. It might have been a bit cold out there last Saturday.
01:33A bit cold, a bit cold. I was, unfortunately I was playing golf and it was, yeah, the rain and the wind and yeah it was cold and really nowhere to, no cover out there really at all.
01:45When I left Taree it was reasonably balmy and so I just had a light jacket on and it was
01:53it was on, it was Antarctic out there. It was awful because then the rain started and then it was just an awful, big crowd when I got there, big crowd and then I'd say by half time in the first grade, half of them had gone home because it was raining.
02:05No, it was a horrible game. I'm going there tomorrow too but I trust the weather will be a little bit warmer tomorrow.
02:10Yes, should be. Only a couple of deferred games this weekend and of course this weekend was originally to be a spare weekend but all the rain we've had has meant that three games are deferred.
02:19I think the Taree City heads to Port City, up to Port Macquarie, all these games are all tomorrow, Wigan hosts Foster-Toncurry and Maclay Valley comes down to Ulbaha to meet the Ulba Pirates.
02:31Have they got enough referees and touch-hutchers to do them all in the one day? They've got to be pretty tight, won't they?
02:38They'll be very tight. I imagine there'll be a few blokes backing up.
02:40Yeah, I'd say there'll be, yes, there'll be a lot of them doing the lines for three grades and that.
02:45Because it's a full round of under-18 games which is planned on Sunday, isn't it?
02:49On Sunday, yes.
02:51So, a lot of at their wages this weekend, the referees and touch-hutchers.
02:57I'd say so, yes. Not about how they earn money but at least working at McDonald's, I guess.
03:04The very first segment of the year, Gary, got you to give your prediction as to who'd win the comp.
03:10And you, somewhat surprisingly, went for Taree City, the club you coached.
03:14They're in a fair bit of hurt now, aren't they, at the mid-point of the season?
03:18Yeah, well, a bit unlucky against Warrup a couple of weeks back when Warrup kicked a penalty goal to tie it up with only a couple of minutes to go.
03:31You would have thought last week, the way Foster's been troubling, that they might have got home with that one but that didn't work again.
03:35So, I mean, they're not getting thrashed in every game.
03:39They're in the games up until half-time or just a bit after half-time and then it just falls apart.
03:43But, yeah, it's still got another full round to go and a couple of extra games.
03:51So, let's hope they're back after the year is a lot better than the first half.
03:55I spoke to Christian Hazard during the week and he said, well, it's going to be tough.
03:59He said exactly what you said.
04:01Well, and the thing about it is that deep into the second half of the last two matches they've led,
04:05they're leading 16-8 last week at Tunkurri with 18 minutes to go.
04:09And the Foster-Tunkurri half-back was introduced to the game and that just turned things around.
04:17They scored two tries from kicks and all of a sudden it was, Harry Reid is his name.
04:24Actually, he's from England. He was at home for a fortnight.
04:28Oh, was he?
04:29Yeah, and he only flew back into Australia on Friday night.
04:31So, they kept him on the bench.
04:33Coach Robbie Payne kept him on the bench until, well, I think about 20 minutes to go he came on there.
04:38And they're down 16-8 and end up winning 22-16.
04:42And then the last try came right up when Bulls had just thrown the ball around.
04:46Just hoping for the best.
04:48He also missed a kick pretty well in front of the post to the Bulls for conversion.
04:53And that would have made it 18.
04:54That would have been, instead of scramming for a try, that could have been scramming for a one-pointer
04:58which may have made a difference.
04:59But it's a poor part of footy, I suppose, isn't it?
05:01You shouldn't miss those, mate.
05:02Those ones in front.
05:03They're alright from the sideline, but the ones in front, you should be slotting them every day of the week.
05:07I'll tell you what, it was one bright spot for the Bulls, though.
05:10The performance of Christian Hazard, he's well and truly shown that he's back to full fitness now.
05:14I think it's fair to say last year he ran around on one of the half-leagues.
05:17He had the operation on that troublesome knee out of the off-season.
05:22He was the best player on the field, I don't care who won the game.
05:23He was the best player on the field by a fair margin.
05:26He won his first try, he charged down a kick and ran 50 metres, the best part of 50 metres.
05:31So he's still got a little bit of speed.
05:32Oh yeah, and he didn't.
05:33I think he's happy to see the try line.
05:35He might not do much more than that.
05:36No, but he got there and he pushed off with sheer strength and scored the second try.
05:41He had a very, very good game.
05:45It's certainly the best game he's played since he's come back to Group 3.
05:48How did Jacob Fulback...
05:50Good game, yeah.
05:52Because normally, Jake's been a half 5'8".
05:54Very well, he's very good on the high ball.
05:56Actually, he saved a couple of tries with his defence and took the ball up hard.
06:00I think he's out this weekend as well.
06:02I think he's got a bit of trouble with his hamstring.
06:04So they're trying to keep him out of the front line a bit.
06:08Another good thing for the Bulls, I guess, looking towards the future,
06:12is they've brought an under-18 hooker, Matty Burns, I think his name is.
06:17Played, I guess, he must have played his part of an era in first grade.
06:19He's a slightly built young fella.
06:21Had a very busy game, very good game.
06:23Well, they're starting to bludder a couple of those 18-year-olds now, aren't they?
06:26Because one of the young fellas that come down from Darwin...
06:30Yeah, he's been bothered, Tash Adderley.
06:32He's played a couple of games now.
06:34Yeah, he played a right last year.
06:36Bit of a controversial finish there.
06:38They've lost a score to try, the winning try by Harry.
06:40Bit of a melee breakout we call a fight these days.
06:44It looked like it was going to spill into the crowd.
06:46It got a bit heated there, but fortunately the peace settled.
06:50Good news for the Hawks, they've been battling away.
06:52Yeah, they've been battling away like the Bulls, haven't they?
06:55So they probably won point in front of the Bulls.
06:57Yep.
06:58Because they had a win and the Bulls had a draw.
07:00They had a draw, yeah.
07:01But let's face it, this time last year Foster were nearly defunct.
07:04Yeah, that's right.
07:06They won the reserve grade too and the women's tag fairly comfortably.
07:10So they're on their way back to the Hawks.
07:12They won't win the comp this year.
07:14I don't think anyone even expects them to.
07:15No, but if they all stay there, if they can keep the major of their players,
07:19it's the first time they've sort of played together.
07:21So you'd like to think that they'll be very strong for next year.
07:25We're on the way back anyway.
07:26Big news this weekend, of course, they'll be out at Albar.
07:29The unbeaten Pirates of course host these somewhat unpredictable McLean Mustangs,
07:33but of course they're without their two guns.
07:36Captain Coaches Michael Henry and Jordan Woolworths.
07:39Yes, that's going to be pretty tough for Albar.
07:42Again, it'll all prove just how strong Albar are if they can handle winning
07:49or competing without the likes of Jordan and Mick there.
07:53Because Jordan's been outstanding and he's playing on one leg too,
07:57one and a half legs as well.
07:59Mick, sometimes you don't know what Mick's going to do,
08:03but he turns up every week to play footy.
08:07So it'll be at least a home game advantage for Albar.
08:13Kempsey are probably thinking, well, we should be able to beat them without the two coaches.
08:18I think they can't.
08:20I don't think they'll ever beat them.
08:23Kempsey are on a bit of an unpredictable side, as we said.
08:26Funny, Bo Champs said last week, two or two things,
08:30he's emphasised his season's defence.
08:34He said, I want you defending.
08:36He said, discipline as far as referees are concerned.
08:38He said, I don't want players in the sin bin back-chatting referees.
08:42The last week was a bit of a high-scoring game, I think.
08:45But the last couple of games before that, they defended very well.
08:49He's very happy with that.
08:50I don't think they might have had a player in the sin bin in the very first game.
08:54I don't think they had it going into last weekend.
08:56I don't think they had another one.
08:57I don't know what happened last weekend at Smithtown.
09:00I haven't seen the Mustangs since that very first game,
09:04so I'll be looking forward to having a look at them.
09:06But yeah, big test for the Pirates.
09:10William, the Tigers, they're on the back of three losses now,
09:13three successive losses, admittedly over an extended time
09:16because of deferred gains.
09:17But they host Foster tomorrow, and they'll be looking forward to it.
09:22They're very badly in need of a win.
09:24Let's hope that they get on the main playing field up there.
09:28No, it's fine.
09:29It's fine?
09:30Yeah, because they were going to play on it last Sunday.
09:32I was going to watch my grandkids play again up there,
09:35and they were going to play on the main field.
09:36We had that bit of rain on Saturday night,
09:38and just the field was a little bit watery,
09:42so they played on the back fields.
09:44So everything's okay, ready to go.
09:46My brother is up there doing a fair bit of work with it too.
09:48They've got some good helpers up there.
09:50Back in the old days, if you played footy on it,
09:54the ground would just keep wearing out, wearing out.
09:57They've got volunteers now to go and help the ground,
10:00like Tarry City have.
10:02Yeah.
10:03There's a lot of workers inside the club,
10:06but they go and get the ground sorted.
10:08So that's what they're doing at Wingham, I suppose.
10:10They do that at Albarra as well, I think.
10:12Actually, Albarra field was in pretty good nick last week,
10:14even despite the rain that we had.
10:16Yeah.
10:17So it's great to be able to play on these fields
10:21that we probably wouldn't be in the last few years
10:24if we didn't have that outside help to get them going.
10:26I watched the Tigers and Port Sharks here a couple of weeks ago,
10:31and it was...
10:32Oh, that was a...
10:34Absolute bomb.
10:35I've said it here and said it in the paper as well.
10:37It was...
10:38And I didn't think they would play there again this year.
10:40But no, Mitch Collins said,
10:42oh, I think they're getting an aerator this weekend.
10:44They were due to train there last night.
10:46I'm pretty confident they're going to.
10:47I would have imagined.
10:48So no, it felt to be fine.
10:51Weather fine, track good.
10:52But yeah, they need to win.
10:54And Ethan Ferguson back for the Tigers?
10:57They'll hope he'll make a difference.
10:59Well, yeah.
11:00I think is Timmy Bridge back this week?
11:02No, he's got one more game to go.
11:03One more game to go.
11:05Yeah, well, Ethan should make a bit of a difference
11:08because he's a quality player.
11:11Well, as he's come through in the juniors,
11:14he's got his program,
11:15so much so he's outside of playing junior footy.
11:18But, you know, he's here to do a job for Wingham
11:21and, you know, he should make his presence felt.
11:25So we'll be interested to see how he does go.
11:27Yeah, yeah.
11:28They weren't bad last week, Wingham.
11:31I mean, they did some good things,
11:33but I don't know, just something, just black something.
11:37I don't know what it is,
11:38whether it's a little bit of organization or...
11:40Yeah, so Mitch is captain coach
11:42and he's head down, backside up,
11:45because he's dummy half.
11:47Very hard as a captain coach to be doing,
11:50knowing exactly what's going on.
11:51You've got to have someone in the halves
11:53or even at fullback to just take control
11:57of the games outside of Mitch.
11:59So, you know, they've only got a young combination
12:02at half and 5'8", haven't they?
12:04Yeah, fair enough.
12:05So, you know, they're learning all the time
12:07and it's, you know, years to come.
12:09The benefit of what they're doing now
12:11might pay dividends for Wingham.
12:13Yeah, they played Kieran Bubb in the centres last week
12:15and I thought he was one of the best players
12:16because they had the best centres that last week,
12:18through injury and suspension.
12:20I don't know, maybe...
12:21He usually plays on the edge, as they say these days,
12:24but I don't know, maybe he'd pivot all the way
12:27in the halves or something, mightn't hurt.
12:29I don't know, I think that's under consideration.
12:31Oh, right.
12:32Well, you know, I suppose sometimes you've got to
12:34just sort of, you know...
12:36Caution in the wind, caution in the wind, yeah.
12:38Just to get them out there and see if they can do the job
12:41and, you know, why not just start doing it now
12:43rather than waiting till later on.
12:45Well, I suppose if you can't make the semis,
12:47you can start doing it then, but still...
12:49still got another full round to go, so...
12:51Yeah, yeah, something they can think about.
12:53Yeah.
12:54But I will say to the top Wingham Tigers too,
12:57and congratulations on them.
12:58I just read online this week,
13:00they don't usually get online that much,
13:01that they presented $1,200
13:03to the Wingham Brush Primary School this week.
13:05Ferdie Martin was there getting his photo taken
13:07to use for sporting goods,
13:09to purchase sporting goods for the school,
13:11so they're certainly a great community club, the Tigers.
13:14Yeah, yeah, they certainly...
13:16Well, it's a bit like Old Bar as well, isn't it?
13:19They're little communities.
13:20And Taree too.
13:21We've obviously got a couple of sites in Taree,
13:23but you've got to look after the schools for sport
13:27because they live in the town and they're coming through
13:30and you want them to play sport and you want them to be...
13:34Want them to play footy too, if you can.
13:36Because there's so many things they can play now.
13:38Yeah, exactly, right.
13:39But yeah, well done to Wingham
13:40and I suppose a lot of other clubs
13:43and that'll be trying to do the same.
13:45Because Old Bar's day last week,
13:47that was for the close to your heart, of course,
13:49the Canter system, also the Canter camp.
13:51Speaking of which, Christian Lee Bridge Day,
13:53when is it?
13:5410th of August.
13:5510th of August.
13:56Anything on the agenda so far?
13:58Yeah, we'll probably have a few.
14:01Paul Surinan will be here.
14:04I've asked another good friend of mine,
14:07Steve Blocker H, if he could come that weekend too
14:11because he obviously does a lot for Fox Sports
14:13and he's calling the games and everything.
14:15I was at Leichhardt the other week and he was there
14:17and calling the game.
14:19But he's going to try and get that day off too.
14:21I have a lot of other Balmain supporters that turn up
14:25that I play with back in the day.
14:27At this stage, it's looking like it's going to be another good day.
14:30Any chance of getting one of those blokes on the bench that Friday?
14:33Well, we can have a chat to him and see who we can get.
14:36Geez, if we get Blocker on, we'll have to get a bigger bench.
14:38No, Blocker looks pretty fit.
14:40But he's still a big man regardless.
14:42He's a big man.
14:43Yeah, so we'll work on that and try and get a few of those,
14:46one or two of those blokes in.
14:48Might be one.
14:49Might be one.
14:50Don't think we're getting two.
14:52I'll be sitting over there somewhere yelling out the questions.
14:55It's all looking good, Mick,
14:56and let's hope that the weather's good
14:58and, again, it's well supported by the local community.
15:02I'll make a tip now that bulls the wind out of the ship.
15:07I'll tell Miss Collins next time.
15:09I'll put that out there, Mitch.
15:11We're coming to get you.
15:12Yeah, well, I reckon on the back of a Christian,
15:14that's a masterclass.
15:16Right, so that'd be very interesting.
15:19Yeah, yeah.
15:20Because only one at once.
15:21Yeah, yeah.
15:22Same plane.
15:23Kick the goal from the sideline.
15:25Yeah.
15:26So let's hope.
15:29Fingers crossed.
15:31What about the auction you usually have?
15:32You got any stuff for that yet?
15:33Oh, yeah, mate.
15:34It's got massive auctions.
15:35Massive auctions.
15:36We've got a corporate box for Manly.
15:41Through Mount Cochrane,
15:42and a local junior that's down in Manly now,
15:44he's organised that for us.
15:45Yeah?
15:46It's a corporate box to watch Manly.
15:47I know it's Manly on the northern beaches,
15:49but it's a great spot to go to.
15:50Oh, yeah.
15:51They're playing the Titans.
15:52It's a Friday night.
15:53It's the Friday after the charity day here.
15:56Yeah, okay.
15:57So it's quickly.
15:58We've got to sign.
15:59You've got to organise it fairly quickly as well.
16:01Yeah.
16:03Signed New South Wales men's and women's jersey.
16:07Signed Balmain jersey.
16:09They've got a signed Parramatta jersey.
16:13Signed Register's jersey.
16:15The one that probably everyone's going to go for
16:17is the Dolphins jersey
16:19signed by one person and one person only.
16:22Wayne Bennett.
16:23Correct.
16:24Oh, wow.
16:25Yeah.
16:26Yes.
16:27So we have got that
16:28because we know Wayne's not there again next year.
16:29No.
16:30He's going to the south.
16:31Yeah, it's really good, mate.
16:32The support we're getting around outside of the community
16:38for this day, it's really good,
16:40and I can't thank most people enough
16:42for what they do to bring it in.
16:44What are we up to now?
16:45The amount of money you've raised?
16:47Well, over $200,000.
16:49Wow.
16:50Yeah, for the local community.
16:51Yeah, in one day.
16:52Yeah.
16:53It's pretty good, isn't it?
16:54It's just, you know, the support.
16:57And obviously we can't assist what they do
16:59in the local community.
17:00You've got people out, which is really good
17:02because you know where the money's going
17:03and the can't assist is all,
17:05they all just do it for nothing.
17:07They have their meetings and everything,
17:09and they're a great cause to raise money for.
17:14How much does that Titans thing,
17:15the corporate boxer go for?
17:17How many of you get fit enough corporate boxers?
17:20Oh, it's for four people.
17:22Four people, okay.
17:23Yeah, so.
17:24What, three friends?
17:25I was trying to think.
17:26Yeah, have you got a manly friend?
17:29Has anyone?
17:33Well, you're going to have to look at that.
17:35I have spoken to a couple of manly supporters
17:37over at the Bulls' major sponsor, the Winter Tavern,
17:40and they're going to go.
17:43It could be fierce bidding.
17:45It could be fierce bidding.
17:46Well, the one last year, we had the Parramatta,
17:48we had last year's Parramatta corporate box.
17:52Yeah.
17:53I think it was for six people last year.
17:55That raised in excess of $2,000,
18:00a bit over $2,500 or something.
18:02It did good.
18:03I took a couple of blokes down there the other weekend
18:06and, you know, corporate boxer.
18:08How was Lockhart, by the way?
18:10Your old standing room?
18:11It hadn't changed any.
18:12Nothing had changed.
18:14It'll be when the $40 million,
18:16when they do the,
18:17they're going to do it at the end of the ground,
18:18they're going to do it at the northern end of the ground,
18:22which is where all the trees are now,
18:24but they're going to do that.
18:26But it was not, you know,
18:27Gordon Tellis was there with the Titans.
18:30Yeah, of course.
18:31He's the ambassador or something.
18:32Yeah.
18:33So still, it's hard to get a park there.
18:36That doesn't change for sure, does it?
18:38No, the streets are that narrow.
18:39But it was just great to get there
18:41and catch up with some other players
18:44that I used to play with.
18:45Tigers had a win too, so.
18:46Tigers had a win.
18:47That was a good thing.
18:48I went down to watch Nav Willett
18:50because Nav's playing with the Tigers.
18:51He played New South Wales Cup that day.
18:53Where did he go?
18:54It didn't go too bad,
18:55but they got absolutely belted.
18:57What was he playing there?
18:58He played wing on the weekend.
19:01But he's been playing pretty good footy.
19:04He's scored a couple of tries in the Jersey League,
19:07so they brought him up for that.
19:08Which grade did he play, sorry?
19:11New South Wales Cup.
19:12Oh, really?
19:13Yeah.
19:14Because he played a first grade game,
19:15like in the trials.
19:16Yeah, yeah.
19:17So, you know, that's good to see a local boy
19:19and that's obviously good that he's playing for a club
19:22that...
19:23OK.
19:24Going places.
19:25Yeah, going places.
19:26Yeah, on the way up.
19:27You can't go any further.
19:28We're on the way up.
19:29Actually, not quite speaking the same thing,
19:31but Foster last week too,
19:32they were beating Tara,
19:33they were on the D.N. Aldridge Memorial Cup.
19:35First time they played.
19:36Of course, D.N. played with both clubs.
19:38He won premierships with both clubs.
19:40So the Hawks get to put something in their traffic cabinet
19:43for 12 months at least,
19:44and next year, Tari City get to host the game too.
19:48I don't know,
19:50they don't have a lot of luck in cup games, the Bulls, do they?
19:53No, we should not mention anything about cup games.
19:56We play the game and after they win...
19:58Oh, by the way, yeah.
19:59Yeah, by the way, this is for the...
20:01Congratulations.
20:02I think they're heading towards one this year, right?
20:04Well, we said that.
20:05We said that.
20:06You just said that right up.
20:08OK, Greg.
20:09Trip340's done.
20:10You all talk about one of your favourite topics,
20:12one good, one bad origin.
20:14Well, we might get the bad one out of the road first.
20:16What did you think of last night's game?
20:18I can't believe that in the girls,
20:21they won the first state of origin convincingly.
20:24The second one, apart from the last 10 minutes,
20:27they were dominant.
20:28They should have smashed them.
20:30They come out last night
20:31and I'd like that they change their jerseys
20:34because the Queenslanders were very dominant last night.
20:38There was no...
20:39You could...
20:40Oh, I don't...
20:41Well, yeah, so I started disastrously
20:43and it just got worse.
20:44Yeah, I just...
20:45Oh, it's unbelievable.
20:46I thought, well, we win this
20:48because they'd have been pumped up after the night before.
20:51But, yeah, weren't the same side, were they?
20:53No, no, they had no direction.
20:55They'd, you know,
20:56when they got one try, which was the intercept.
20:58Intercept.
20:59She ran 100 metres again to score.
21:01She did the...
21:02First game.
21:03First game, second game, one of those.
21:04First game, first one, yeah.
21:05So, yeah, that was disappointing.
21:07And, you know, the crowd was at Townsville, Queensland,
21:11and they were Queenslanders.
21:13You could hear them.
21:14Didn't they?
21:15That Queenslander.
21:16Queenslander.
21:17He should have patented it at Billy Moore's.
21:19Yeah.
21:20So, that was probably disappointing, that game,
21:23thinking they were going to win.
21:25But, no, they didn't.
21:27Well...
21:28Anyway, we've done the right thing.
21:30We've spoken about that.
21:32What about the men's gossip?
21:33We said, you know, a couple of weeks ago
21:35that we thought the New South Wales would win Game 2,
21:37and they certainly did.
21:38I didn't think they'd win by...
21:39No.
21:40Well, it was over at half-time.
21:41It was a bit like...
21:42Well, was it?
21:43Well, it was 34-0.
21:44Like, it...
21:45Yeah, that's not quite what I've heard from an insider saying,
21:48you weren't so confident when you were watching the game.
21:51Your death ride in New South Wales bit, I heard.
21:53Oh, just...
21:54Well, you've got to make a game of it, haven't you?
21:56You've got to make a game of it.
21:57But, actually, I laughed a minute.
21:58When it got to that 34-12, I was, oh, no, this...
22:00And it was still half an hour to go.
22:02I thought, oh, this is not going to happen.
22:03Surely it's not going to happen.
22:04Of course, when they scored the final try,
22:06New South Wales scored their final try.
22:07It was all over.
22:08There'll be no changes, you wouldn't think, for Game 3,
22:10provided there's no suspensions or injuries.
22:12Yeah, that shouldn't be, either,
22:14because they were dominant in every area across the park.
22:19And, yeah, we speak about...
22:22Luttrell spoke about it a fair few times in where he's playing,
22:26but always said he's...
22:27I reckon he's a centre.
22:29Yeah.
22:30He's got that much strength,
22:31and it's not that he has to run the ball every set of six
22:34because it depends where the game's going to,
22:36but he demands...
22:37He just commands that much attention when he's got the ball,
22:41and he can tackle it just when he hits it.
22:44He made some good hits there the other night, didn't he?
22:46He's a big, big body.
22:47Yeah, so I wonder if Souths now will put him in the centres
22:51and have that young fella...
22:52Yeah, we had to go down and ask whether...
22:53Yeah.
22:54He's only tiny.
22:55Yeah, he's not very big,
22:56but do they do that knowing that they can sort of swap it around
22:58if it happens?
22:59Because he's...
23:00Oh, and you just work out...
23:01Well, you know the side they're going to play anyway,
23:04Souths, when they play,
23:05but the other night there, he was...
23:07They scored, what, three or four tries down his side?
23:10Yeah, they all...
23:11Talhah scored, yeah, I think...
23:13Talhah scored two, Drotel won.
23:14Drotel won, yeah, yeah.
23:15So, no, it was...
23:16And I had a group three boy, of course,
23:18Mitch Barnett on the side.
23:19Yeah, on the side line again.
23:21It must be frustrating, no?
23:22Yeah.
23:23So what do they do now?
23:25He's been there twice,
23:26do they not pick him next time as the 18th man because Burton?
23:29Yeah.
23:30Burton went back to play...
23:31Yeah, I don't know.
23:32I don't know.
23:33It must be very hard.
23:34Yeah.
23:35You're a part of the club.
23:37Part of the club, but you're not, are you?
23:39You've no chance of getting in unless there's an injury.
23:41There's an injury in the books.
23:42It's a foul injury, isn't it?
23:43It's a foul play, wasn't it?
23:44Yeah, I think so.
23:45But well done, Mitch, local boy.
23:47At least he's in the thing.
23:49So I'm going to have to get him to sign the New South Wales jersey too
23:54with all the players that have...
23:55I've also got that,
23:56all the players that have played for New South Wales from here.
23:58Oh, really?
23:59Yeah, so I've got that jersey.
24:00Well, he technically hasn't played yet, has he, really?
24:02No, but he's 18.
24:04I'd class that as a, you're in the squad.
24:06Okay.
24:07Okay, because, well, I shouldn't say that
24:09because once upon a time I had about 24 there.
24:11But yeah, he's in the squad.
24:13He's been there twice, in the squad.
24:14Okay, well, you're real as you do what you want.
24:17So the thing is, if a back rower gets injured or a front rower,
24:21shouldn't he jump into the side?
24:24Well, I guess.
24:25Because he's playing front row for the Warriors, isn't he?
24:28Front row is on the edge.
24:29Yeah, yeah.
24:30Middle and edge, I think they say these days, don't they?
24:32Yeah.
24:33I hope Mitch gets a start because being there twice,
24:37you deserve to get a run.
24:39The Queenslanders will make many changes.
24:42Again, injury and suspension will come to play.
24:44Injury and suspension or just Billy just go,
24:47let's just forget about that one.
24:50To me, Reece Walsh looked to be a little bit shy as to what he did.
24:54Shell-shocked, yeah.
24:55Yeah.
24:56And the hammer, well, at fullback, he's so dangerous.
25:01Reece Walsh.
25:02Not too many games of footy this week.
25:04Well, actually, there's plenty of games of footy this week.
25:05You're not supposed to think about it, isn't there?
25:06Saturday, A.M., Sunday.
25:07But it's going to be good weather, mate.
25:08So if you're going to footy, enjoy it.
25:10You'll be playing golf, I guess.
25:11Yeah, I'm going to have a little hit on Saturday afternoon,
25:13only because I'm not coming to Port to watch Terry play Port up there.
25:17I'll wait until the following weekend.
25:21And, you know, I don't get to play golf very often.
25:23That's true, I thought you would.
25:25So I might as well go and try and have a hit.
25:27Well, enjoy it, mate.
25:28And, as I say, if you're going to footy this weekend, enjoy it.
25:30And we'll be back next week for On The Bench.
25:32And I promise that within the next two or three weeks,
25:34we'll definitely have a Christian Hazard on.
25:36I spoke to him earlier this week.
25:37We might even see if we can get Kylie Hilder.
25:39Good luck with that.
25:40Yeah.
25:41It's finished now, so we'll give her just a few days to go.
25:45I'll give her a ring next week.
25:46I'll leave that in your...
25:47See if we can get her over to Chatham Mountain.
25:49That's your job, Gary.
25:51But, okay, thanks for your time, Gary.
25:53And we'll see some of you on the weekend.
25:55All right.
25:58Bye.
25:59Bye.
26:00Bye.
26:01Bye.
26:02Bye.
26:03Bye.
26:04Bye.
26:05Bye.
26:06Bye.
26:07Bye.
26:08Bye.
26:09Bye.
26:10Bye.
26:11Bye.
26:12Bye.
26:13Bye.
26:14Bye.
26:15Bye.
26:16Bye.
26:17Bye.
26:18Bye.
26:19Bye.
26:20Bye.
26:21Bye.
26:22Bye.
26:23Bye.
26:24Bye.
26:25Bye.
26:26Bye.
