00:00Tay, what was your favorite Disney movie growing up?
00:03My favorite Disney movie, well, Pocahontas was big for me
00:09just because, you know, and The Princess and the Frog.
00:16That, right?
00:17Yep.
00:18It's been a while.
00:19Yeah, those two.
00:20Yeah.
00:21What about you?
00:23My favorites were Frozen.
00:25I used to watch Frozen on repeat, repeat, every day.
00:30I had Frozen heels.
00:31I had Frozen microphones, everything.
00:34But also, it's funny because Ariel
00:36was my second favorite Disney princess of all time.
00:39I loved her beautiful hair.
00:43I loved the mermaid aspect, her beautiful tail,
00:48and all that she represented.
00:50It was really a full circle moment
00:53coming into this character.
00:54You know Tay has an into Frozen, right?
00:56There you go.
00:59You can probably see it on V-Doc.
01:00I do.
01:01Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:03Did your son have a favorite Disney movie growing up?
01:05We saw them all.
01:09Obviously, well, not obviously.
01:11Frozen, he got sick of it pretty quickly.
01:13Did he?
01:13You can imagine.
01:15One of the big, because we still watch him.
01:17We still watch him.
01:18Yeah.
01:19He now, he just now is realizing how
01:23a lot of the brilliance of Disney,
01:25they'll make storylines accessible to the children
01:28and the adults alike so that adults don't get sick.
01:31I'm so excited for this.
01:33I was saying before, my kids have
01:34been seeing the commercials for Ariel
01:36like nonstop when they're watching
01:38Disney in the morning.
01:39So we're very excited.
01:40So tell me how we are kind of reimagining Ariel.
01:43I know we're kind of going back to the beginning.
01:45So tell me all about it.
01:47I really love this new type of version of Ariel
01:53because we get to see Ariel younger than we ever
01:55seen her before.
01:56We get to see a deeper dive into her life,
01:58who she was friends with, how she makes friends.
02:01And yeah, all together, we get to see a deeper
02:04dive into her daily life.
02:07And it's not this event that happens
02:08like we see in feature films.
02:09It's really how she lives and who she was.
02:14I feel like that's a really, really great type
02:16of new vision into her life.
02:19Definitely.
02:20Tay, how did you approach King Triton?
02:23With excitement.
02:25As you can imagine, being a part of the Disney family
02:29for both of us has been a wonderful experience.
02:33But we're making history.
02:34It's a completely multi-ethnic cast.
02:38We've got brand new music with a very
02:40strong Caribbean background.
02:42And like a little mama said, these
02:45are very understandable and palatable kind of situations
02:52this mother-daughter, excuse me,
02:54father-daughter relationship.
02:56People can actually kind of use them
02:59as opposed to the larger-than-life situations
03:02you find on the big screen.
03:03Definitely.
03:04These are characters that people have grown up with,
03:07that people still go back and revisit time and time again.
03:10Do you feel pressure at all taking on these roles that
03:13are such iconic characters?
03:14Or are you excited to kind of put your own twist on it?
03:17I feel like it's a little bit of both.
03:18There's a pressure coming into this incredible role,
03:22all these amazing people have played Ariel.
03:25And it's kind of a pressure kind of being up there
03:29and having to take on that character as well.
03:32But I feel like, as you said, I can also put my own type
03:35of spin on it because Ariel, like I said,
03:38has never been shown this young.
03:40And it's kind of like I like to think of it
03:42as a brand new look into Ariel.
03:48And I get to put my own type of spin on things
03:53while keeping it the iconic Ariel that we all know and love.
03:56Definitely.
03:57Tell you how that is.
03:58Absolutely, yeah.
03:59Disney very rarely, you know, they know how to do it.
04:01So they changed it just enough where we could
04:04feel like we're doing our thing.
04:06But they're obviously not going to mess
04:08with something that's been doing so well for so many years.
04:12Yeah, I think we're both just really,
04:14really honored and excited.
