Il debutto in Italia avvenne il 30 dicembre 1982 al Teatro alla Scala in Ernani.Nel febbraio 1993 fu alla Washington Opera in Turandot e nell'aprile all'Opera di Roma ne Il trovatore. Nel 1994 cantò a Sydney in Turandot.Si è particolarmente distinto in Aida, che ha interpretato in più di 240 recite; seguono Turandot con 179 e Il trovatore con 160, oltre a titoli in particolare verdiani e pucciniani, per un totale di 49 ruoli.

The debut in Italy took place on 30 December 1982 at the Teatro alla Scala in Ernani. In February 1993 he was at the Washington Opera in Turandot and in April at the Rome Opera in Il Trovatore. In 1994 he sang in Sydney in Turandot.
