Traitor tortoise chooses Slovakia to win

One of London Zoo's Galápagos tortoises, Priscilla, had made her Euros predication - and she fancies England beaten.

The squad face a crunch match against Slovakia in the UEFA competition on Sunday - and the shelled retile was tasked with 'predicting' the winner by choosing a tasty team-linked clump of leafy twigs.

However, after a long wait for the zoo’s slow-mover to make her decision, Slovakia was chosen to proceed into the quarter-finals.

Priscilla, identifiable by a red dot on her shell, and after a brief moment of indecisiveness, made her way to the Slovakian flag.

The Galápagos tortoises are a species classified as Endangered by the IUCN Red List. Historically threatened by hunting, tortoises on the island are currently threatened by domestic animals brought by passing ships, tourism, and disease.

ZSL and other organisations contribute to the conservation of these animals, by running field projects in the Galápagos Islands, and finding out about disease threats to Galápagos flora and fauna.
