Jake Hasan breaks down the betting impact of Nationals' top prospect James Wood getting called up to the Big Leagues and the best times to jump in the market
Transcript
00:00I think if James Wood is going to win this award, be live for this award, he's going
00:06to have to do like a Yordan Alvarez from a couple of years ago. He's gonna have to do
00:09a Gary Sanchez from one almost 10 years ago now, and just go insane off the rip, just
00:15Monday debut. I'm talking Monday debut home run, maybe not as Thursday at bat, but in
00:19that game or a couple of extra base heads, he can make up the ground.
00:23I don't think that the, I don't think it's done. I don't think it's over. He has the
00:28opportunity. Now my issue is, are the nationals going to play games and send them back down?
00:35Or can we get a confirmation or do we feel good that he's going to be up the entire year?
00:40I lean towards the latter for a couple of reasons. The nationals are in the playoff
00:44race. They're only a couple of games out of the wild card and they're playing much better.
00:48They kind of remind you of the Marlins from last year where they're exceeding expectations.
00:53They're in the playoff race. The third, I know wildcard is complete crap shoot. So they
00:58definitely have a shot at it. So that makes me think that James would, it'll be up the
01:01entire year because the nationals are ready to return to relevance and return to being
01:06a playoff team in baseball again, because they're there.
01:08Not only James would Dylan Cruz is playing really well at triple a, maybe we see him
01:11in like September and a couple of these guys, Jake Irvin, Mitchell Parker have come up this
01:16year and pitched really well for them. We haven't even seen Joe's. I agree at this year.
01:20He'll probably be back at some point. So it makes me think that the nationals are in this
01:24to go for that third wild card so that they can hang their hat on this and be like, Hey,
01:28we're back. We're a playoff team. We're relevant again. So I guess the question is like, Jake,
01:33are you going to bet James would 200 to one to one NL rookie of the year?
01:36I'm going to tell you what I'm going to do. I'm not going to do it right now. I'm not
01:42in this moment. I won 22 central time on Friday before he's even taken a pitch at the major
01:47league level. I'm going to wait till Monday. I know our guy, Matt Pisani is thinking about
01:52going to the game on Monday. So he'll have eyes on boots on the ground. If you will,
01:57I'm going to watch this game. And there are markets that keep rookie of the year open
02:01while the games are happening. I think that if you're interested in James wood,
02:05you go to that market and you go to that book and you have it open.
02:09You can even put it in your account, open the bet, slip, click the button, but you don't have
02:13to hit confirm bet. And then you just wait and you watch and you see how it looks. And if he
02:18hits a double or a triple or a home run in his first at bat, and you're like, yeah, this kid's
02:23got it. Then you hit the button because I'm going to do that. I'm going to think about it. It's a
02:27huge price. How do you not? This NL rookie of the year is a complete cluster right now. Paul
02:33skeins is the favorite as he should be. Nobody is arguing that he's awesome, but if you're going to
02:38try and beat him and you don't love Joey Ortiz at 11 to one, and you don't want to bet Jackson
02:43Merrill at four to one, then here's your opportunity. If you like long prices, you want
02:46to take a shot. You want to spend 10, 20 bucks, then yeah, let's do this. Let's watch the game on
02:50Monday. Let's see how it goes and let's be ready to press the button. I think that's the way to
02:55attack it. I think that's the way to do it. Don't just, because if he goes over three with a couple
03:00of strikeouts on Monday, the price isn't going to change. The price isn't going to move off 200 to
03:05one. It's going to stay the same, especially.
