00:00These four players will win a fabulous trip to Costa Rica as we play America's most popular
00:12hidden word game, Boggle, the interactive game.
00:16And here's your host, Leight Martindale.
00:17Thanks, Randy.
00:18Yes, thank you, players.
00:19Hello, everybody, and welcome to Boggle, the interactive game.
00:25This is an exciting new game where not only do the players here in the studio compete,
00:28but several times during the course of the show, you at home will get a chance to win
00:32prizes by playing a game very similar to the one we're playing right here.
00:35All you need is a touch-tone telephone, so stick around for that, will you?
00:39In the meantime, our four studio players are Alex Noe.
00:43He's a research assistant from Kansas City, Kansas.
00:45Ken Martin is a market researcher from Newark, New Jersey.
00:49Regina Hicks is a writer from Savannah, Georgia.
00:52And Deanna Gallis is a writer from Hawthorne, California.
00:55Welcome to all of you, and good luck.
00:59These four players will compete in our elimination contest until we come up with one Boggle champion
01:03of the day who will win this fabulous trip.
01:05We'll fly today's winner and a guest to Costa Rica for a week's stay at the Carrieri Resort
01:10and Country Club, located in Costa Rica's picturesque Central Valley.
01:14Features golf, tennis, horseback riding, gyms, and gourmet food from Carrieri Hotel Resort.
01:19Okay, Wink.
01:20Okay, thanks, Randy.
01:21And by the way, in addition to the trip to Costa Rica, we'll also give you a gorgeous
01:25string of pearls.
01:27All right, players, we're about to start round one.
01:29In front of you is a keypad that looks exactly like a telephone keypad.
01:33I'll show you a grid of letters that corresponds to that keypad.
01:37Hidden in that grid are four and five letter words.
01:40I'll give you a clue to each word, and you'll have 10 seconds to spell it out by pressing
01:44the number or symbol on your keypad that corresponds to the correct letters.
01:48And bear in mind, you're spelling the answers out using the letters on our grid and not
01:53the letters on your telephone keypad.
01:55For example, in this grid, if the clue was common illness, you would ignore the letters
01:59on your telephone keypad and spell out the answer, C-O-L-D, cold, by pressing the number
02:05keys that are in the same position as the letters on our grid.
02:09So to spell out cold, you'd press nine for C, eight for O, seven for L, and the star
02:15for D. And let me point out, too, in each word, each letter must connect to the previous
02:21letter.
02:22Okay?
02:23One more thing before we start.
02:24In 30 seconds, we'll show you the first letter of the answer, and remember, you can only
02:27use a letter one for each word.
02:30Each word is worth up to 1,000 points, and obviously, the faster you punch in with the
02:34correct letters, the more points you score.
02:36Do we understand each other?
02:37All right.
02:38The three players with the highest scores after five words will move on to round two.
02:42And let me point out this.
02:43You folks at home watching right now can practice playing our game by finding the same words
02:48they're looking for by using your own touchtone phone.
02:51So let's get started by looking at the first boggle board.
02:54Here's your grid of letters.
02:55We'll use this grid to find the five words in this round.
02:58And the first clue is this.
03:01A specific amount of medicine.
03:04First letter is a D.
03:11If you pushed the buttons eight, zero, star, and seven, you spelled out the word dose using
03:15the letters on our grid.
03:17And each of you did.
03:18Very good.
03:19From here, you can score up to 1,000 points for each correct answer.
03:22And your scores are determined by just how fast you punched in your answer.
03:26Let's move on to clue number two.
03:27Take a look at the screen.
03:29A glowing review.
03:31First letters are R-A-V-E.
03:40A rave review is a glowing review.
03:43Three of you got it.
03:44Alex missed it.
03:45That's going to put him behind.
03:46Let's add these scores to your totals and see how far Alex is behind everybody else
03:49because only three players move forward.
03:52So Alex, you're at 589.
03:53You're 200, 300 points behind.
03:55Let's go on to word number three.
03:57Here's your clue.
03:59Auctioneer's final word begins with an S.
04:08If you pushed star, zero, pound sign, and eight, you spelled out sold using the letters
04:13on our grid.
04:14Very well done.
04:16All right.
04:17Let's add that to your previous scores and here's where you stand.
04:20Everybody's pretty close, but Alex, you're still behind.
04:22Those are the totals as we go to word number four.
04:24Here's the clue.
04:25Alex, try to get this one right and in a hurry.
04:28Wayne's World sidekick begins with a G.
04:37G-A-R-T-H.
04:39Wayne World sidekick, Garth.
04:41Everybody got it right.
04:42However, let's add to your previous scores and see where everybody stands.
04:46Let's see if Alex improved his position because he was behind.
04:50Very close.
04:51As a matter of fact, you moved ahead, Alex.
04:53And Regina, you are now in fourth place.
04:55Remember, only the top three players move on to the next round.
04:58Final word.
04:59So, Regina, again, that means you got to get this right to have a chance to move on.
05:03Here's your final word and the clue is swans and half gainers begins with a D.
05:09D-I-V-E-S.
05:18Dives.
05:19Let's total up the scores and see who will be moving on to round two.
05:23Three top players are Ken, Regina, and Deanna.
05:27Very good, Regina.
05:28You did it.
05:29Alex, you got it right, but you didn't get in ahead of Regina on that, so she jumped
05:33ahead of you.
05:34So, congratulations to Ken, Regina, and Deanna.
05:37And of course, Alex, we have to say goodbye to you, but we do have some nice parting gifts
05:40and our thanks for playing Interactive Boggle.
05:42So, that's pretty easy, isn't it?
05:44I hope you played well at home.
05:45If you'd like to get in on the fun, here's your chance at home to be a game show boggle
05:49contestant and win prizes.

06:14We play boggle by finding four and five letter words in a grid that resembles your telephone
06:18keypad.
06:19We'll give you clues to five different words.
06:21To spell out a word, look at the screen, find the letter you need, and punch the button
06:25on your phone that's in the same place as that letter.
06:28In this grid, if the first clue was half a quart, you'd spell out the answer pint by
06:32pressing six for P, five for I, nine for N, and the pound sign for T. And let me point
06:38out in each word, each letter must connect to the previous letter.
06:42After three seconds, we'll show you the first letter of the answer.
06:45You'll then have seven more seconds to spell out the complete word.
06:48Remember, you can only use a letter once for each word, and in order to get credit for
06:52an answer, you must spell it out completely.
06:55After five words, the caller with the highest score combining the most correct answers in
06:58the shortest amount of time wins.
