England fans at the Owls in the Park event in Sheffield on June 29, 2024 discussed England's upcoming Euro 2024 match-up against Slovakia.

They also discuss the infamous question - Gareth Southgate: In or Out?
Transcript
00:00How do you think England will do on Sunday?
00:02I think we'll win 2-0.
00:04Very confident 2-0.
00:06Awesome.
00:08What do you think about Gareth Southgate and how he's doing?
00:11Some people aren't very happy. Do you think we need a new manager?
00:13And if so, who would you like?
00:15I think Southgate can be quite defensive at times.
00:18I think he plays a lot of possession football,
00:21which is good for the team,
00:23but there's nothing in the final third.
00:25So what I'd say is maybe change a few tactics in the midfield.
00:28Let's have more of a midfield battle.
00:30I think we should keep Southgate.
00:34I think he's alright.
00:36He's got us to a semi-final and a final
00:38in the last two international tournaments.
00:41So hopefully, fingers crossed, this time it's a winner.
00:44How do you think England will do on Sunday?
00:47Well, if they play like they've done in the first few games,
00:50then I think they're going to find it a struggle.
00:52Because they've been quite defensive, quite negative.
00:54But I think if they play to the players' strengths,
00:57the attacking players that we've got,
00:59there's no reason we can't progress to the next round, definitely.
01:02Chris, Cain's making a few tweaks, isn't he?
01:04With the line-up.
01:05At the minute, it feels a bit like the 2006 World Cup
01:08where Sven was like, he played out of position,
01:10scored on the left side.
01:11He's playing the best individual as well as the best team.
01:13So I think it just makes a few changes.
01:15Maybe play Spurs a bit more central.
01:17Maybe get someone like Broward and Watkins for support.
01:20Cain's less isolated.
01:22Hopefully, we can get a good win to boost that in the round.
01:26We've got a favourable draw.
01:27Slovakia, hopefully, should be a good 2-0 win at least.
01:30Awesome.
01:31And obviously, one of the focuses of the tournament so far
01:35has been Gareth Southgate.
01:37Are you guys supportive of Gareth?
01:39Do you think they need a new manager?
01:40If you do think they need a new manager, who would you like it to be?
01:43I have been supportive of him in the past.
01:44But I think this group of players,
01:46there's so much more that he can get out of them.
01:49But I just think, just because the way he likes to set the team up,
01:52to be quite defensive.
01:54He doesn't play to England's strengths.
01:55And I think now is the time to get a new appointment in
01:59who is a bit more attack-minded,
02:01gets the best out of the players that we've got.
02:03I think the next guy will probably be Graham Potter.
02:07He's not taken a job elsewhere since he's left Chelsea.
02:10And I think he's sort of holding out for that England role.
02:12I think it would be a good appointment because he did a good job at Brighton
02:15with a similar group of players that were very talented
02:18and very attack-minded.
02:19So I think it would be a good appointment for England.
02:21Chris?
02:22I think with Southgate, it's been its course.
02:24I think he's done a tremendous job.
02:25I think both on the field and off the field,
02:27creating a more inclusive culture.
02:29I think he's done a tremendous job.
02:31But I think it's time to leave.
02:32It's probably a bit of a sorrow,
02:34where he's not going to have a quarter-finals.
02:36And I think when he's stayed in that position for such a long time,
02:39it can become a bit of a stale.
02:41And I think at the time, it's time for someone who's had ideas.
02:44And it's a case of thanking him for all he's done and just moving on.
02:47Hopefully someone like Fock. I think it'd be perfect.
02:50After Liverpool, I think he's a bit exhausted.
02:52And I think having that in Cheshire City, that would be good for him.
02:55Just to have a job that isn't quite so intense as for day-to-day club management.
02:59So I can see him really thriving at each football night.
03:02And that's all well.
