03:24tax to the extent that even if you go out of the country, you have to pay a tax to the
03:42The most problematic was the tax on digital content creators, their social media, their digital warriors, or whatever you want to call them, the digital terrorists there were greatly harassed.
04:01The bill included a new tax on digital content such as mobile phones, cameras, and recording equipment.
04:08The bill also included a tax on specialized hospitals.
04:12We also have a tax on life-saving drugs.
04:16A new tax was also being imposed.
04:18So, there was a flood of taxes.
04:20The president there was very confident.
04:22He thought, if we impose a tax, what difference will it make?
04:24What harm will people do to us?
04:26But then people came out on the streets.
04:28A few days later, between 18th June and 26th June, what did the president say about taxes?
04:36And then on 26th June, when people came out on the streets, what did he say?
04:58The president of Kenya accepted defeat and took back the taxes.
05:12How did this start?
05:14Generation Z, whom we talk about again and again, are challenging the world order.
05:19They are challenging old ideas.
05:21They are not happy with their situation.
05:23And they want change.
05:25And they are very vocal about their change.
05:27This is not happening in Iran or America.
05:29This is happening in most places in the world.
05:31Probably, Generation Z in Kenya was also fed up with their situation.
05:34So, what did they do?
05:36They started a campaign.
05:39On 14th June, a journalist from Kenya, whose account is called The People's Watchman,
05:43started a campaign against the government's finance bill 2024-X.
05:48We saw this change in a protest movement.
05:53We saw that people started from there.
05:56They made hashtags.
05:58They wrote editorials.
06:00They did digital activism.
06:02And we saw that people came out on the streets as a result of this bill.
06:07So, they used social media.
06:09By the way, these young people were not the leaders of any political party.
06:12This was their own movement.
06:16They gathered their own support.
06:22And then they overturned the bill.
06:24I am not saying that you should go to Intishar.
06:26Or that you should get inspired by such tactics and do it in Pakistan.
06:30The thing is that you should not test the patience of people.
06:33In Pakistan, middle class and salaried class are already paying a lot of taxes.
06:39When you impose extra charges on them,
06:41you are pushing the system in such a way that those who have come to the tax net,
06:45they regret that why they registered themselves for tax.
06:50And those who have an incentive to pay taxes or file taxes,
06:55they should not be tempted to do so after such a terrible process.
06:59And the small business owners,
07:02it is also possible that they will circumvent the system and come up with a solution.
07:06We use the word solution in Pakistani language.
07:08And they come up with a lot of solutions.
07:10So, they will come up with a solution around these taxes.
07:13The system should give people an incentive to join the tax net as much as possible.
07:18Those who do not participate,
07:20those from whom you cannot take taxes,
07:22those who do not have your capacity,
07:24or they are the elite of this country,
07:26or they cannot pay taxes in this country,
07:28or do not want to pay taxes,
07:30no one can harm them.
07:32But those who have registered themselves as a good law-abiding citizen at any time,
07:38and also file their taxes,
07:40do not make it so difficult for them
07:42that tomorrow they regret the mistake
07:44they made in registering themselves as a tax filer.
07:48So, it is clearly visible that
07:50the middle class in this country,
07:52which is already broken,
07:54should be pushed down more
07:56and pushed under our poverty.
07:58And those who are already under poverty,
08:00I don't know how they will survive.
08:02And I don't know how people sleep at night
08:04knowing that the nobility of this country is having fun.
08:07On whose money?
08:08On the money of the middle class and lower class.
