In the early 1970s she began singing assiduously with various groups (New Direction, The Hondo Beat, All the People). In 1974 he appeared in the film Lenny. In 1979 he recorded two of the most important albums of his career, Somewhere in My Lifetime and You Know How to Love Me. He renewed his success in 1981 with the interpretation of the song Can't We Fall in Love Again in duet with Michael Henderson. At the same time she worked with Chuck Mangione, The Whispers and The Four Tops. She also performed a song for the soundtrack of the film Never Say Never Again. On June 30, 1995, at the age of 45, she committed suicide after an overdose of barbiturates. She was found still alive in her New York apartment; her death occurred a few hours later in hospital. In a note she had written: "I'm tired, I'm tired. You know who I love among you. May God bless you."
