00:00Last night, we had the first presidential debate between former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden.
00:06A lot of Democrats are dismayed by President Biden's performance. What's your reaction?
00:11Yeah, I've heard some of that. I'm not panicking, I must say.
00:16I think he didn't have his best night for sure.
00:20You know, the State of the Union speech that he gave was fantastic.
00:23I was with him in Philadelphia a couple of weeks ago.
00:26He was great there. And I've seen him at the rally today that's been televised.
00:31And he looks like he's back on his game.
00:33But, you know, there's a lot more campaign to come.
00:37And I think the other part of this that's positive for us was that, you know,
00:42I don't think Trump had a great night either particularly.
00:45I think he lied a lot in obvious ways that turned off a lot of potentially persuadable voters.
00:53And certainly the double haters weren't going to be drawn to him based on what he did and said last night either.
00:58So, you know, I think we've got a long ways to go.
01:01We got a lot of work to do, but we're definitely still in a position to win this race.
01:06Can you shine more light on that? Because it is something that we're told constantly,
01:09that President Biden is a lot better behind closed doors.
01:12Is that true? I mean, you've talked a little bit about, you know, the other instances in which you've seen him.
01:17What is he like in those instances? Was last night really an anomaly?
01:22It's something a lot. It was an anomaly from what I've seen.
01:25I mean, the Philadelphia rally was a public event.
01:29You know, we went there, I think, about two weeks ago.
01:32The vice president spoke first. He spoke second.
01:35You know, a few thousand people there, mainly a younger crowd.
01:39He did a great job with it. And everybody saw the State of the Union.
01:43You know, what a great job he did there. So, you know, the private meetings and things,
01:48he's certainly, you know, sharp and knows policy inside and out.
01:52But I'm talking about the public aspect of this, and I think he's definitely able to do it.
01:57He had a tough night last night, but I don't think that's indicative of who he is or what he can do.
02:03So Rep. Jim Clyburn, among other Democrats, are saying, you know,
02:07they plan to speak with Biden today, tell him to stay the course.
02:10So I'm assuming you agree with this sentiment from coming from top Democrats.
02:14Oh, yeah. You know, the panicky stuff, you know, I don't share that view.
02:20I really do think that, well, we know that he's the only candidate that's ever beaten Donald Trump in a race.
02:27I guess Donald Trump doesn't agree with that.
02:29But we all know that Joe Biden won fair and square in 2020, and he can do it again in 2024.
02:36We've got a lot of work to do as far as the campaign goes.
02:40I think he's, you know, have a lot of positive developments with the economy.
02:45You know, unemployment being down, inflation went up, but it's coming back down.
02:49There's a lot of positive factors.
02:51But I think we have to do more to explain to individual voters how they're personally benefiting from the policies he's put in place to really make a difference there.
03:03And I think reminding people of, you know, what a circus the Trump presidency was, especially on January 6th.
03:10And, you know, the lies he told about January 6th last night were astonishing.
03:14But everybody saw that. They remember what it looks like.
03:17And they know from themselves for themselves that those people weren't tourists.
03:21They weren't invited in. They you know, we had officers that died that night.
03:26It was a big blow against democracy.
03:29Fortunately, the nation survived it, but I don't think we should give him a second shot.
