00:18Good evening.
00:19Almost two years ago, the country was moved by unexpected news.
00:24The young executive Christian Edwards, son of journalist Agustin Edwards, had been kidnapped.
00:30It was September 9, 1991.
00:33From then on, for five months, the entire society remained alert,
00:38waiting for the outcome of this fact, which was talked about everywhere and which was little known.
00:44However, the profound pain and anguish of the parents was known.
00:49Also, the uncertainty that surrounded the whole family during all this time.
00:54Uncertainty also shared by all Chileans.
00:58Because no one remained indifferent to this reality.
01:01And it is that there are crimes that produce a great collective impact
01:05and that cause irreparable damage to the victims.
01:08Certainly, one of those crimes is kidnapping,
01:12which, as previously pointed out, always receives, and justifiably, a huge social repudiation.
01:18Let's also imagine how this effect multiplies if the victim is a child.
01:23On this topic is the story of the next Mea Culpa.
01:48We are in the public prison of Santiago.
02:08Paradoxically, today, this place does not exist as such.
02:13However, the memories of many who paid their Mea Culpa with prison still remain.
03:13The cultural transgressions that have historically occurred through the use of force,
03:42and the violence that has been produced through cinema,
03:45have often been as profound as imperceptible.
03:49Germán Núñez, a fan of action and police movies,
03:54began to realize that he was able to assume for sure the endings of each of them.
04:01In short, he learned and assumed a whole science
04:05based on the exercise of correcting the mistakes committed by the criminals in each film.
04:13In August 1984, Germán Núñez earned his living by buying used cars,
04:20which he fixed and then sold on the street in front of his house.
04:25A fortuitous meeting with a former friend, Roberto Torres Aguilar,
04:30who, like him, had serious economic problems,
04:33ignited the spark of a series of sinister plans.
05:03Both Germán and Roberto enjoyed the meeting as a real stroke of luck.
05:20Both had economic needs, but also courage and daring to take any plan to good fate.
05:28The first option was to rob a bank.
05:32But the high risk made them define themselves by kidnapping.
05:37I know a person who is a public hammer,
05:40and currently this person can pay in 24 hours, up to 15 days.
