00:00We request the government of Pakistan to respect human rights and fundamental freedoms.
00:05We will learn more about the press conference of U.S. Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs,
00:09Mr. Vedant Patel, in this briefing.
00:11Jahanzeb Ali, Jahanzeb.
00:16Look, the U.S. Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Vedant Patel,
00:20was asked questions about the Pakistan-U.S. agreement in the U.S. Congress.
00:24And he was also asked,
00:26has the Bani PTI been declared illegal as part of the Working Group?
00:32What will the U.S. administration say about this?
00:34So, on this, Mr. Vedant Patel said,
00:36Bani PTI cases are an internal matter of Pakistan,
00:39and only they can talk about it in a better way.
00:42Mr. Vedant Patel also said,
00:44we will not talk about the legalization of the Congress.
00:47In our democratic system, the Congress is a separate branch of the government.
00:51But he said that when it comes to Pakistan,
00:53our Supreme Leader, Tony Blinken,
00:57Assistant Secretary of State, Donald Lu,
01:00and Secretary of State, Donald Bloom,
01:02have continuously emphasized on Pakistan,
01:05on a personal and public level,
01:07that it should respect its people's rights
01:09according to its own laws and international laws.
01:12He said, we Pakistanis emphasize
01:14that it should also respect human rights and fundamental freedoms.
01:19He said that, of course,
01:21we should also have the right to gather in a peaceful manner.
01:25He also said, I also asked him,
01:27that the U.S. government has also expressed its concern
01:30about the elections in Pakistan.
01:33And it had asked for facts.
01:35Is the U.S. still on its side?
01:38So, Mr. Vedant Patel said,
01:39that the issue of elections in Pakistan
01:41will continue to be raised with the Pakistanis.
01:44And the issue of elections in Pakistan
01:46is still the focus of the U.S. attention.
01:49He also said, that Pakistan and India
01:51have to resolve their own issues.
01:53If the U.S. talks with neighboring countries,
01:55it will lose its confidence.
01:57Thank you very much, Mr. Janzeb.
02:19Secretary Blinken, Assistant Secretary Liu, Ambassador Bloom,
02:22we have consistently and privately and publicly urged Pakistan
02:26to respect the rights of its people
02:28in line with its constitution and international commitments.
02:31And we urge the government of Pakistan
02:33to respect human rights and fundamental freedoms,
02:36including the freedom of expression,
02:38freedom of association, peaceful assembly,
02:40and the freedom of religion.
02:42Regarding Pakistan, please correct me if I'm wrong,
02:45State Department also raised the same questions
02:47regarding the credibility of Pakistani elections
02:49held in Feb this year,
02:51and asking for the investigation of reports
02:54from massive rigging in those elections.
02:57You're still asking those questions
02:59from the Pakistani government?
03:01This is something that we have continued to raise
03:03with our partners in Pakistan.
03:05Yes, that continues to be an area of focus of ours.
03:09The Department of Homeland Security
03:11has identified over 400 immigrants
03:13from Central Asia and other regions
03:15as subjects of concern due to their entry into the U.S.
03:18through an ISIS-linked human smuggling network.
03:21What measures are being taken to mitigate this threat
03:23and ensure national security?
03:25So we're aware of this report, and this is something
03:27that my colleagues at the Department of Homeland Security
03:29can speak to in more detail.
03:31Let me just say, though, that we work very closely
03:35with international counterparts,
03:37including our partners in Central Asia,
03:39on issues like counterterrorism partnerships,
03:42exchange information on potential threats,
03:44as well as improving screening capabilities.
03:47Would you say something about the multiple bombings in Nigeria,
03:52like more than 50 people dead, more than 100 are injured?
03:56So we condemn this horrific attack
03:58that took place in Borno on June 29th.
04:01These attacks show a disregard of human life
04:04and a reminder of the ongoing threat
04:06posed by terrorism in the region.
04:08We offer our condolences to the families of those killed
04:11and wish a full recovery to those who were injured.
04:14We would hope that any country on the face of the planet
04:17condemns terrorism anywhere,
04:19but ultimately this is between India and Pakistan.
04:24Broadly, of course, we welcome any countries
04:29making more positive relations with their neighbors,
04:32but as it relates to this specifically,
04:34I just don't have anything to offer.
04:36I let the United Nations offer any clarity
04:38on the comments that they've provided,
04:40and in the case of Mr. Khan,
04:42you've heard us say this before,
04:44this is an internal matter for Pakistan.
04:46I don't have any assessment to offer from here.
