00:00In Venezuela, President Nicolás Maduro led on Monday the presentation of the National
00:04Journalism Award Simón Bolívar 2024 in its 82nd edition.
00:08The ceremony took place in the Ayacucho Hall of the Presidential Palace in Miraflores.
00:13The awards were presented in different categories, such as television, print, radio, graphic
00:18image, opinion, cultural, teaching and research, digital journalism, among others.
00:24This way, the national government reaffirmed its commitment and support to national and
00:28international journalists in their work to make the truth known and keep the people
00:33informed in an objective manner in their struggle against injustice.
00:38In this sense, the head of state paid tribute to journalist Julian Assange, thus demonstrating
00:43his support to journalists who fight for freedom of expression and the right to be informed.
00:52The President also presented the National Television Journalism Award to journalist
00:56Luis Guillermo García Bencomo for his journalistic work in his program El Mundo desde el Sur,
01:02broadcast on our multi-platform news channel TeleSul, in which he offers analysis and perspectives
01:08on world current affairs from the point of view of the peoples of Latin America.
01:18On the other hand, the Venezuelan head of state presented a special award to journalist
01:22Julian Assange, who vindicated with his actions an example and courageous and fearless journalism
01:28and with truth as its evidence defend freedom of expression and the right of the people
01:33to be informed.
01:35After facing several years of persecution following Wikileaks' release of information
01:39on acts of war perpetrated by the United States government, Assange spent more than a decade
01:45fighting for his freedom.
01:47President Maduro said today that today Julian Assange was free and that represented a victory
01:53for journalism, for truth and for freedom over repression.
