Overcoming Earthly Desires: A Reflection on Colossians 3:5–6

Today we are going to reflect on Colossians 3:5–6, which reads:

*"Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming."*

### Reflection
In these verses, Paul calls us to a higher standard of living, one that reflects our new identity in Christ. The call to "put to death" our earthly nature is a reminder that following Jesus requires an active and conscious effort to turn away from behaviors and desires that separate us from God. Sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, and greed are all forms of idolatry because they place our own desires above God's will. Recognizing these areas in our lives and actively working to remove them allows us to live in a way that honors God and aligns with His purposes for us.

### Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word and the guidance it provides. Help us to recognize the areas in our lives that do not honor You. Give us the strength and determination to put to death our earthly nature and to live in a way that reflects Your love and holiness. We ask for Your grace to overcome sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, and greed. Transform our hearts and minds to desire what is pleasing to You. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
