00:07:55This is a lovely song that was recorded by a very lovely singer from the 1920s
00:08:04and 30s named Annette Hanshaw and I grew up listening to her on 78 record before
00:08:12there were CDs and so this is a song about longing for for summertime even
00:08:23though it's July and but I like this weather suits me just fine because I'm
00:08:30from British Columbia and I like songs about the rain and we have lots of those
00:08:35tonight so this is called Just Like a Butterfly That's Caught in the Rain.
00:08:53Here I am lonely, tired and lonely, crying from pain.
00:09:04Just like a butterfly that's caught in the rain.
00:09:13Longing for flowers, dreaming of hours, back in the sun kissed lane.
00:09:23Just like a butterfly that's caught in the rain.
00:09:34I know that all of the world is cheery by that old cottage door.
00:09:45Why are my wings so weary? I can't fly anymore.
00:09:54Here I am praying, brokenly saying, give me the sun again.
00:10:04Just like a butterfly that's caught in the rain.
00:10:13When it's raining from the sky and I see a butterfly, I can almost hear him sighing
00:10:27because he has to stop his flying. I can easily sympathize with those helpless butterflies.
00:10:40Here I am lonely, tired and lonely, crying for home in pain.
00:10:50Just like a butterfly that's caught in the rain.
00:11:10I know all the world is cheery by that old cottage door.
00:11:30I know all the world is cheery by that old cottage door.

00:12:04Just like a butterfly that's caught in the rain.
00:12:16Give me the sun again. Caught in the rain.
00:12:32Thank you very much. Thank you. Thank you.
00:12:48This song was originally recorded just on the ukulele alone, and it's going to be played by Stuart Duncan, playing his daughter's ukulele.
00:13:00So this is, I guess, our only wedding song in the repertoire. So anybody got married today or yesterday or no?
00:13:10Ten years ago. Well, then after this song, it's just we have one wedding song in our repertoire and the rest is all kind of like about heartbreak and divorce and kind of things like that.
00:13:28So until then, though, this is a song called Everything's Made for Love.
00:13:38One, two, one, two, three, you'll be a master of baby days. Still you got those baby wings. You're as bashful every time that I'm with you.
00:13:50Still you're fond of me, say, though you keep me far away. Oh, why can't we love just like other sweethearts do?
00:14:06What do we got lips for? What do we got arms for? Why do we have stars above? Oh, you know, I know, everything's made for love.
00:14:19What do we got eyes for? What do we sigh sighs for? Why do we say dovey dove? Oh, you know, I know, everything's made for love.
00:14:32What is the park for? What is the dark for? Why are shady lanes? Why is a cozy corner so rosy every time it rains?
00:14:45What have I got you for? What have you got me for? What are we both thinking of? Oh, you know, I know, everything's made for love.
00:14:57Why do we have preachers? Why do we have teachers? Why do we have weddings too? Oh, you know, I know, everything's made for love.
00:15:10What is the gold band for? What is the best man for? Why do we all say I do? Oh, you know, I know, everything's made for love.
00:15:23What do we see for? What do we sing for and when Cupid calls? Why do we go and spend all of our dough? What does it see? The Agra Falls.
00:15:36Why do we cry and why do we heave sigh and why do we say dovey dove? Oh, you know, I know, everything's made for love.
00:15:53What is the park for? What is the dark for? Why are shady lanes? Why is a cozy corner so rosy every time it rains?
00:16:14What is the park for? What is the dark for? Why are shady lanes? Why is a cozy corner so rosy every time it rains? Oh, what have I got you for? What have you got me for? What are we both thinking of?
00:16:33Oh, you know, I know, everything's made for love. Oh, you know, I know, everything's made for love. Oh, you know, I know, everything's made for love.
00:17:03Thank you. So I probably told you this before last time I was here, but my dad is a record collector. He collects 78 records and cylinders and all sorts of great things to listen to.
00:17:25Every time I go home, we don't talk very much. We just play cards and listen to 78s, and I always discover something new that's very, very old. So this next song was written in 1928, and although it could have been written yesterday, as far as it feels to me, and I think that's lovely.
00:17:51So I don't think there's any recordings of this on iTunes or any place you can really find it. It's not one of those kind of songs you can associate with Fred Astaire or Ginger Rogers or, you know, all the sort of things that we associate a lot of great American songbook kind of songs.
00:18:11But it's a very lovely song about staying together when things are tough. It's called, it's another rain song. It's called Let It Rain.
00:18:42Angels are crying. They are shedding their tears. That's why the rain falls from the sky.
00:18:59Storm will pass away. There'll come a brighter day. So cheer up now and dry your eyes.

00:55:37How far would I travel just to be where you are?
00:56:05How far is the journey? How far is the journey? From you to a star. How deep is the ocean?
00:56:31How deep is the ocean?
00:56:53How high is the sky?
00:57:23How much do I love you? How much do I love you? How much do I love you? How much do I love you? How much do I love you?
00:57:53How deep is the ocean?
00:58:03Thank you very much. This is a song from Sunshine for everyone.
00:58:13Get your coat and take your hat. Leave your worries on the doorstep. Just direct your feet to the sunny side of the street. Can't you hear that pitter-patter? You know that happy tune is your step.
00:58:40Life can be so sweet on the sunny side of the street. I used to walk in the shade with my blues on parade. But now I'm not afraid to hold this road crossed over. And if I ever have a cent, I'll be rich as Rockefeller. Cold dust at my feet on the sunny side of the street.
00:59:10I used to walk in the shade with my blues on parade. But now I'm not afraid to hold this road crossed over. And if I ever have a cent, I'll be rich as Rockefeller. Cold dust at my feet on the sunny side of the street. I used to walk in the shade with my blues on parade. But now I'm not afraid to hold this road crossed over. And if I ever have a cent, I'll be rich as Rockefeller. Cold dust at my feet on the sunny side of the street. And if I ever have a cent, I'll be rich as Rockefeller.
00:59:40I used to walk in the shade with my blues on parade. But now I'm not afraid to hold this road crossed over. And if I ever have a cent, I'll be rich as Rockefeller.
01:00:10I used to walk in the shade with my blues on parade. But now I'm not afraid to hold this road crossed over. And if I ever have a cent, I'll be rich as Rockefeller.
01:00:35I used to walk in the shade with my blues on parade. But now I'm not afraid to hold this road crossed over. And if I ever have a cent, I'll be rich as Rockefeller.
01:01:05I used to walk in the shade with my blues on parade. But now I'm not afraid to hold this road crossed over. And if I ever have a cent, I'll be rich as Rockefeller. Cold dust at my feet on the sunny, on the sunny, on the sunny, sunny side of the street.
01:01:30Thank you very much. We're going to cross the sunny side of the street to the Lonely Avenue, a song recorded by the late, great Ray Charles.
01:02:00I used to walk in the shade with my blues on parade. But now I'm not afraid to hold this road crossed over. And if I ever have a cent, I'll be rich as Rockefeller.
01:02:30I used to walk in the shade with my blues on parade. But now I'm not afraid to hold this road crossed over. And if I ever have a cent, I'll be rich as Rockefeller.
01:02:55I used to walk in the shade with my blues on parade. But now I'm not afraid to hold this road crossed over. And if I ever have a cent, I'll be rich as Rockefeller.
