00:00Outgoing Secretary Sara Duterte is about to start a new era of deaf education for Senator Sunny Angara.
00:14For more information, Marisumali contacted Barangay Saksi Online.
00:23From the Senate to the Department of Education,
00:27Senator Juan Edgardo Sunny Angara is about to replace the former Defense Secretary, Vice President Sara Duterte.
00:35Under President Marcos' orders, the Philippines' international standing in the Program for International Student Assessment, or PISA,
00:43as well as improving the teaching of history to students, will be elevated.
00:47It's not just about memorization, but it's about understanding what really happened, why it happened, and making history interesting for our young people.
01:01Because Senator Angara is about to start a new era of deaf education this month,
01:06it's time for her to reopen her classes.
01:08This is one of the first priorities she will give at the start of her term.
01:14In a GMA Integrated News interview, Angara said that she is already coordinating with the field of Outgoing Education Secretary Duterte for a proper turnover in the government.
01:24Angara will continue the initial review of the visa for the streamlining of the curriculum.
01:29The K-12 Program, or Enhanced Basic Education Act, is also being reviewed by the deaf education.
01:35One of the participants is Angara.
01:37We'll continue whatever review was started.
01:40But there is a law, so at the end of the day, the Congress will be the one to decide the policy direction.
01:47As the highest policy-setting body, we'll have to follow whatever the law dictates.
01:52The controversy faced by Vice President Saradal for asking for confidential funds for deaf education is now over.
01:59I think the Vice President hasn't asked for confidential funds for the last two years, so I don't think it will be necessary.
02:06In a statement by the deaf education to welcome the next school year, they said that they are ready to assist their leader in improving the quality of basic education in the country.
02:15The two groups of teachers laid out what they think should be the priority of the school year, including for the teachers.
02:23The reduction of work and the payment of overtime pay, these are very good policies, but this hasn't been implemented yet.
02:33I hope that there will be an opportunity for the stakeholders to be part of the implementation of the program, especially our teachers.
02:43In our online questions, many responded that they hope that the teachers' salaries will be increased.
02:49Aside from that, one said that they hope that the school buildings and training for the teachers will be improved.
02:54Of course, we support any pending measures like we support the increase in the teaching allowance. We are one of the authors of that.
03:05So anything that will help improve the compensation and the benefits of our teachers, we are 100 percent supportive.
03:12A netizen said that they hope that the students' creative thinking and their ability in math and science will be prioritized.
03:20Two asked for the increase of scholarships and other opportunities for the students to continue their studies.
03:27Some asked for the teachers to stop vlogging during class hours.
03:32As for the request of private schools to increase their single enrollment...
03:36There are costs. Of course, however, the department can help our schools, whether public or private, because that is our mandate under the legal system.
03:46There is complementarity and we're constitutionally mandated to support the schools irrespective of whether they're public or private.
