00:00Thank you. Well, good morning,
00:10everyone. Let me first thank
00:12leader Jeffries, our co-chair
00:14of the pro-choice caucus, Diana
00:16DeGette for their bold
00:18leadership. I am a proud
00:20Democrat, and I'm so proud of
00:22our Democratic caucus. Thank
00:24you all very much for staying
00:26the course on this issue that
00:28really is about life or death.
00:30I'm so proud of all of you and
00:32with all of our incredible
00:34inspiring coalition partners
00:36doing the work on the ground.
00:38Two years ago, five extremist
00:40Supreme Court justices voted to
00:42take our country back decades
00:44and revoke a fundamental right
00:46of millions by overturning Roe.
00:49This is yet another attack on
00:52our democracy. Now millions of
00:54Americans of reproductive age
00:56are living without access to
00:58abortion care, suffering
01:00unbearable harm to their bodies
01:02and their lives. This
01:04anniversary, it's a stark
01:06reminder of the casualties in
01:08the GOP's war on reproductive
01:10freedom. But it also must be a
01:12call to action. It's a wake-up
01:14call, because this cannot
01:16continue. Tonight, the two
01:18candidates for president will
01:20debate for the first time in
01:22this election. I hope the
01:24country is paying attention not
01:26only to how they feel about
01:27abortion, but what they've
01:29actually done about it. From
01:31day one, the Biden
01:33administration has shown a
01:35clear and early commitment to
01:37sexual and reproductive health
01:39and rights. He has taken
01:41concrete actions to protect
01:43access to abortion, including
01:45medication abortion, the
01:47ability to travel for
01:49reproductive care, access to
01:51affordable quality
01:53contraception, safeguarding the
01:55privacy of women, and
01:57safeguarding the privacy of
01:59patients and health care
02:01providers and more. The
02:03extreme GOP and their allies
02:05on the Supreme Court could not
02:07be more opposite. They've
02:09continued an assault on
02:11reproductive freedom through
02:13harmful legislation at each
02:15level of government and in
02:17states across the nation. Let's
02:19be clear. Republicans are
02:21ready and eager to institute
02:23a national ban and create more
02:25suffering. We cannot let
02:27them do that. We cannot let
02:29GOP extremism continue to
02:31subvert the will of the
02:33people. As someone who had
02:35an unsafe and illegal
02:37abortion before Rome, we
02:39cannot allow this country
02:41to revert back to those
02:43days. The majority of
02:45Americans support the right
02:47to an abortion. Our caucus
02:49won't stop fighting until
02:51our laws reflect our
02:53democratic values and
02:55our own freedoms to make
02:57our own health care
02:59decisions without
03:01interference, mind you,
03:03from judges and elected
03:05officials. Thank you again.
03:07And now I'd like to
03:09yield to our woman
03:11warrior, Diana DeGette.
03:13Thank you.
