00:00It's 30 years since excitement mounted at the prospect of a new football stadium on

00:06Wearside. The start of a new adventure was on the way, and while Washington seemed a

00:12likely destination, the site of the former Wearmouth Colliery eventually was chosen.

00:19By early 1995, the public got to examine the plans in detail. Later that year, physical

00:26evidence of the unfolding adventure was there for all to see. Here's a reminder of how the

00:32West Stand looked as it took shape in October that year.

00:38In early 1997, season ticket holders got a sneak preview of their seats, and within months

00:46it was ready. On a day of excitement there were shows, status quo on stage, and fans

00:53going through the turnstiles of a new home.
