00:00We're here with Jonathan Brash, Hartlepool's new MP. Jonathan, how do you feel about the
00:06results tonight? It's a big result for you personally and also for Labour.
00:09Look, I'm enormously proud to be the Member of Parliament for my hometown. It's something
00:14we've worked as a party for for many, many years, but to be perfectly frank,
00:18the work starts now. Hartlepool's crying out for change. We've a new Labour government that's going
00:23to deliver on the promises it made and I'm just absolutely ready to get down to work for the
00:28people of this town. It must be great for you on a personal note that you've had your hometown
00:34for a number of years after so many years of being involved in Labour and in politics in
00:38Hartlepool. It must be great for you on a personal note. Well look, I grew up here and my kids are
00:44growing up here and so it's with an almost privilege that I'm now elected as its Member
00:49of Parliament because I want my hometown to be a place where my children can grow up with
00:54opportunity, where the streets are safe, where the public services are strong and that's what
00:59we've got to work for now. That's what we're going to deliver on and I'm just so proud to be able to
01:05start that work immediately because that's what Hartlepool wants. Someone who works for them
01:09every single day, gets up every single morning with one mission to make Hartlepool better.
01:13That's the Member of Parliament I want to be. What was the reaction that you were getting
01:18from voters when you were going out on the doorsteps over there weeks and months ago?
01:21Incredibly positive. Look, I mean the town and the country has cried out for change and
01:28change is what we're going to have. We've got a new government taking office tomorrow, led by
01:32Keir Starmer, a new MP here in Hartlepool. People want that change, that change has been delivered.
01:38Now we have to get down to the work of government in order to deliver for the people.
01:42What are going to be your priorities? My priorities are very straightforward. We need good, well-paid
01:48jobs here in Hartlepool. We need our NHS back on its feet and services returned to our hospital.
01:53We need our streets to be safer with more police. We need opportunities for our young people at
01:58every stage, whether it's primary, secondary, FE. We need to support them right through their
02:04journey so they can have the best opportunities in life. Those are my priorities for Hartlepool.
02:08That's what will make us a stronger town and one that we can all be proud of.
