00:00Thank you. This is a declaration of the result of poll, election of a member of parliament
00:23for Lancaster and Wyre on Thursday 4 July 2024. I, Helen Bingley, being the returning
00:32officer at the above election, do hereby give notice that the number of votes recorded for
00:39each candidate at the election is as follows. Nigel Alderson, Reform UK, 6,866. Peter Gordon
00:57Cartridge, the Conservative Party candidate, 10,062. Jack Lennox, Green Party, 5,236. Matt
01:21Severn, Liberal Democrat, 1,529. Kat Smith, Labour Party, 19,315.
01:51The number of ballot papers rejected was as follows. Voting for more candidates than voter
01:58was entitled to 20. Writing or mark by which voter could be identified, 7. Being unmarked
02:07or wholly void for uncertainty, 172. Total, 199. And I do hereby declare that Kat Smith
02:17is duly elected. Thank you. I'd like to thank the returning officers, the elections team
02:39and everyone who's taken part in either staffing polling stations or counting this evening.
02:45I'd also like to thank the police for ensuring that the poll was conducted safely and I have
02:52to thank my election agent, James Groves, for helping me secure this historic fourth
02:57Labour term here in Lancaster. I want to thank my office team who continue to support me
03:05day in, day out. John, Peter, Stephen, Lydia and Lisa, thank you so much for all the support
03:10you give me. And the wider campaign team who campaigned in all weathers to ensure that
03:17we managed to get the message out. And I would pay tribute to my fellow candidates who stood
03:23because democracy only works when candidates step forward and give up their own time and
03:28volunteer. I want to say the biggest thanks though to the voters of Lancaster and Wyre
03:35who have put their trust in me. And to those who have not voted for me, I will work tirelessly
03:41to be the voice for our whole community regardless of how people voted. And there will be many
03:47who put their trust in Labour for the very first time and I will do everything I can
03:52to deliver that change that you voted for. Thank you very much.
