00:00Well it wasn't that un-Peterborough result. Everyone's been out ever so long, so I just
00:07want to say a few words, and I'm sure there'll be other things to be said in the days to
00:17come. It is the privilege of my life to be given the opportunity to serve in the place
00:23I now call home. I love Peterborough and I'm genuinely proud of it.
00:30And I love not just the people, the architecture, the building, the leisure. I love the potential.
00:37I love the opportunity. I love the talent and ability we have as a city to do the things
00:43we want to do to make life better for all of our residents in all communities and all
00:48parts of this city. So I really want to just say this. Thank you.
00:55I think this character's gone on nearly as long as the election campaign, and I worry
00:59when we leave this room that we'll be starting the next election campaign after this one.
01:03So I'd really like to thank the Lieutenant Officer, all of the tellers and everyone who's
01:07been counselling tonight and who have been patient with us, and I thank you kindly for
01:11your support. I'd like to thank other councillors, staff who have worked through the day, the
01:19police and others who have not just done an amazing job tonight, but an amazing job through
01:22this whole campaign, keeping us safe and advised on how we do this properly in the
01:27right way. And I want to say thank you to the people of Peterborough for giving me this
01:31opportunity. It is clear from the results tonight that people want to turn the page
01:37on 14 years of Tory chaos. People are fed up with people working in this country. People
01:43are fed up with longer NHS waiting lists. People are fed up with crime taking longer.
01:48People are fed up with nothing happening in our city centre. People are fed up that
01:52Peterborough gets left behind too often and for too long. Tomorrow morning, with a Labour
01:58government, a Labour MP and a Labour council, we can begin to change that.
02:10But it's also clear from the results tonight that people in Peterborough want a different
02:14style of politics and a different kind of politics. The results and the figures I've
02:19got to stand before you as our next MP demonstrate that across everyone on this platform, and
02:24I thank all of the candidates, their aides and party workers, this city needs to heal
02:28and come together. This city needs to listen to each other. This city needs to be better
02:33in how it conducts its politics and how it conducts its public life. And I give you this
02:38commitment to serve this city faithfully and to serve all of our communities and to hear
02:43the message all of us, particularly the main parties, have been given in this election
02:47today. Let's go do it. Thank you.
