01:37I therefore give public notice that Amanda Louise Martin is duly elected as a Member of Parliament for the Portsmouth North constituency.
01:51And just to finish, the total number of votes cast in Portsmouth North constituency was 41,741.
02:00The total number of ballot papers rejected was 148. 22 ballot papers were rejected because
02:06votes were given from more than one candidate and 126 ballot papers were rejected because they
02:11were unmarked or void for uncertainty. The turnout for Portsmouth North was 59.25 percent.
02:20Firstly, I'd like to say a huge thank you to the returning officers, the people counting,
02:25staff at polling stations, the police and staff here this evening, and to my amazing campaign team
02:32and beautiful family, of whom there are far too many to thank personally, but without whom
02:41it wouldn't be possible to have this journey, and also a thank you to my agent.
02:47To those disappointed at the result tonight, let me cheer you up. Democracy is never wrong.
02:56I want to add my thanks to all those who have facilitated this election, the count, the police,
03:03those who ran polling stations, the electoral team at Portsmouth City Council, and also to all
03:10candidates who've run in North and South, and in particular my running mate in the South,
03:16Sina Biddle. Congratulations, Amanda. You have my assurance that I and my team will do everything
03:25we can to assist you in setting up your office and having a smooth transfer of our casework
03:33so that the people of Portsmouth have a good service throughout that period.
03:41Amanda, you will know that you are now working for the best employer ever. The people of Portsmouth
03:49are wonderful, hard-working, big-hearted, and anything that I ever achieved was made possible
03:56by them, and I thank them for the opportunities they have given me. I will never stop caring
04:05for these people or this place, and in all things I've been guided by them, their common sense,
04:13their determination, their ambitions and hopes, their pride in our city and our nation.
04:21Tonight, the Conservative Party has taken a battering
04:26because it failed to honour the trust that people had placed in it.

06:36Labour Party, is duly elected as a Member of Parliament for the Portsmouth South constituency.
06:50The total number of votes cast in Portsmouth South constituency was 38,928.
06:58The total number of ballot papers rejected was 118.

07:19The turnout for Portsmouth South was 53,000, sorry 53,000, 53.05%.
07:31I'd like to ask these people to come over, if you'd like to say a few words.
07:40The people of Portsmouth have spoken, they have voted to change our country for better
07:48and that change starts right here tonight.
08:01I think that they have seen that we have put forward a positive campaign of hope and of change.
08:19I think that they want to see a trust in politicians and I think that Keir Starmer's
08:25message is something that I know I personally believe in, is that to be elected as an MP
08:30is humbling but it's a service and those that haven't elected me, I guess we need to show them
08:36that we are there to do the job for them and we are here to work for the people of Portsmouth.
08:41So it's clearly a change election, nothing was working in our country, people in Portsmouth
08:46are struggling to see a doctor or dentist, we see raw sewage pumped into our oceans,
08:50cost of living has taken its toll on so many people up and down our country
08:53and we wanted to see change and people have voted for that today with this historic result,
08:57both in Portsmouth North and across the country.
09:00And we've never had two Labour MPs in this city and a Labour government,
09:05we believe that that hope and chance for change is really possible here.
09:08So what can Portsmouth residents expect now that their city has turned entirely red?
09:13So we've got to roll up our sleeves and get on with delivering the change that people want to
09:16see and we've got to be realistic on delivering that but certainly an ambitious Labour government
09:20will improve lives for people across Portsmouth.
09:23I agree completely and both Stephen and I will want to be championing this city
09:28in Parliament and in the heart of a Labour government.
09:30Are there any local issues that you're itching to tackle?
09:33So we set out our plans obviously in the manifesto but I know locally obviously real
09:37issues around sewage, the pressures of the cost of living crisis having on people,
09:41we need to make sure that Aquind has stopped, lots of other things that people have raised with us.
09:48Primary care in the NHS.
