00:00Gorborough Holsteins dominated the Junior and Intermediate Championship judging at the
00:05Victorian Winter Fair at Bendigo this week.
00:08The Kahuna stud claimed the four top spots in the Junior Championship, the Intermediate
00:13Championship and was named Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor of the show.
00:18The Victorian Winter Fair is celebrating its 10th anniversary and has stamped itself on
00:23the Dairy Show calendar as the only event offering autumn calving Holsteins the opportunity
00:29to be shown at their best.
00:31Gorborough's Glen Gordon says the Junior Champion has an impressive pedigree.
00:36This is Gorborough's sidekick Ruth.
00:39Her sister is Gorborough Jagger Ruth who was honourable mention and second to her in her
00:44class.
00:45This set was actually owned with John and Luke Gardner, so Avonlea Holsteins.
00:50It's been a great partnership with those guys.
00:57And how did you feel about getting all three, the trifecta and the juniors, a pretty impressive
01:01result?
01:02Yeah, it is.
01:03And the fourth heifer was actually a Gorborough heifer as well.
01:06So we came with nine dry heifers and six of them were either first or second.
01:10We had four class winners and two seconds, so there were six out for champion and to
01:15have the final four is pretty incredible to be honest.
01:19We certainly put a lot of work into the heifers back home.
01:23They've been sort of on a show diet or a program since about March, so hard work pays off I
01:29guess.
01:30These results don't just happen and it takes a team of people to get us to where we've
01:35got to today and we're just very thankful for all those guys.
01:37Yeah, and tell me a bit about that.
01:39So it's a Ruth family?
01:40Yep.
01:41So her mother's an 88 point Jacobi who we showed at Dairy Week two years ago.
01:47She was fourth in the four year old class.
01:49Her sister is actually a cow called Avonlea Rival Ruth who we also own.
01:54She was champion here at Bendigo three years ago or two years ago and she was also reserve
02:02champion at International Dairy Week as well.
02:04So yeah, it's a family doing very good things for us.
02:08Yeah, and for you personally, you know you've had obviously coming back and you're kind
02:13of at Dairy Week.
02:14Yeah, we love showing at Bendigo.
02:16It's a very exhibitor friendly show.
02:20It's great to be in the same shed with fellow exhibitors and easy to catch up with like
02:25minded people.
02:26So yeah, we're stoked to be back and support it and we're off to a pretty good start.
02:32Gawbro also claimed the Intermediate Championship for the feisty three year old Gawbro Sidekick
02:40Rick.
02:41The Intermediate Champion cow is a cow we've got a lot of time for.
02:46We just think she has an incredible udder.
02:49She's a cow that's come straight out of the freestall.
02:51She runs in there with the rest of the cows every day of the year.
02:55Yeah, we just we love the udder in the cow.
02:58So yeah, that's why we decided to try and break her in and bring her.
03:02So this is her first show?
03:03Yep, first show, first time out.
03:05So yeah, she's still learning the ropes a little bit, but hopefully she'll get better.
03:10And tell me a bit about her breeding.
03:12Yeah, so she's a sidekick.
03:13She scored 88 points last week on a second calf.
03:18She's out of a Jacobi or a Jacobi.
03:21It was a cow also 88 points that we took to International Dairy Week.
03:25Dairy Week was about fifth in the Senior 3 class a few years ago.
03:28And then she came from a Gold Chip cow that we bought from Fairvale.
03:34It was out of an excellent Allen cow.
03:36So yeah, back from the Fairvale cow families down in Tasmania.
03:40And another championship for Gawbro.
03:43So how does that feel?
03:44It's pretty stoked.
03:46To be mixing it at the top with the calibre of cows that are at this show.
03:53The numbers are up this year, but the quality is so deep.
03:58There's no cows on the showgrounds that don't deserve to be here.
04:02It's been an incredible show.
04:04So we're absolutely thrilled to be lucky enough to be standing at the top, I guess.
