Around 5,700 residents were evacuated after waters breached a dike at China's second-largest freshwater lake in the south of the country. Rescue workers rushed to contain further damage from the outflows.
About 55,600 tons of rocks have been urgently transferred from surrounding counties and cities to block the gap.
No casualties have been reported.
