00:00Hi, MysteryRecapped here. Today, I'm going to explain a sci-fi thriller movie called Anti-Matter.
00:07Spoilers ahead. Watch out and take care.
00:13The movie opens as we're introduced to a PhD student at Oxford University named Anna.
00:18She is currently in her lab experimenting with the reactions of electrolytes under different electromagnetic pulses.
00:24During her repeated experiments, the atoms are unaffected by pulse changes, and the conductor remains in a stable state.
00:31However, during experiment number 17, she is surprisingly able to make an electron disappear.
00:36At this moment, her colleague Nate enters the lab, and Anna excitedly shares her discovery with him.
00:41Nate believes that the electron cannot be destroyed, so it must have been relocated to another location.
00:47So, they decide to make an entire atom disappear, which is still small, but takes more computational power.
00:52Anna wants to take it a step further and try it on a whole molecule, which contains multiple atoms.
00:57She hopes that this will allow her to track where a molecule goes.
01:01However, the problem lies in their equipment, which is old and needs to be upgraded.
01:05They also need to reconfigure their process to reduce the risk of server crashes.
01:09In the following scene, the duo approaches a hacker named Liv, who knows how to extract more computational power from a network of computers.
01:16They explain the situation to her, and she quickly becomes interested.
01:20Liv suggests using a programmatic worm to gain access to all of the university's computers.
01:25Nate is concerned, because it is illegal, but Liv assures him that the virus cannot be tracked.
01:29While the three are discussing the plan, we notice a group of people outside protesting against animal testing.
01:35Later, the trio arrives at the lab and starts working.
01:38Liv uses an arithmetic virus to infect half of all computers worldwide, leveraging their combined computing power.
01:45Something tells me this movie's veering into the land of bullshit now.
01:49Anna repeats experiment number 17, and this time, they successfully make a small branch disappear.
01:55Where'd my dick go? says Nate.
01:57They then experiment with marble, which also disappears in the same way as before.
02:01They conclude that the object is moving, and must now determine its precise destination.
02:05In the following days, Anna continues her experiments, using bigger things each time.
02:09They soon realize that how they position the electrodes in three dimensions is critical to moving objects.
02:15They then decide to work on designating a small location for objects.
02:18On one occasion, they select a specific final position for a Rubik's Cube.
02:22The cube vanishes from its starting position, and reappears at the designated spot.
02:27This implies that they have successfully accomplished teleportation through a wormhole.
02:32One day, the trio decides to teleport living things for their experiments.
02:36They successfully teleport a worm, which remains alive after passing through the space gap.
02:40They put a worm through a wormhole, say that ten times fast.
02:43They gradually move on to larger animals, including Liv's grandmother's cat.
02:48Which also emerges unharmed.
02:50They then examine the specimens for cellular mutations or molecular decay, but discover no problems.
02:56The DNA and RNA are identical before and after the teleportation.
03:00Excited by their success, Anna and Nate decide to create a stable wormhole.
03:04Liv tests it by throwing an object through, which unexpectedly falls on Anna.
03:09So far, the wormholes have only remained open long enough for objects to pass through them.
03:13The team also plans to present their findings and secure funding.
03:16Nate uses his father's help to file for patents in Anna's name for their discoveries.
03:20They then start to imagine how their invention could change the world.
03:24During this time, we learn that Nate and Anna have been friends since their freshman year,
03:28and have a crush on each other.
03:30However, neither has confessed their feelings yet.
03:32One day, Nate finally approaches her and asks her out on a movie date.
03:36But before she can respond, Liv arrives with bad news.
03:40It turns out that Microsoft has released a patch that will shut down their virus.
03:44This will lead to a loss of access to computational power from all hacked computers within a day.
03:49The news worries the trio.
03:51So, they decide that they must accomplish something significant within a day to secure funding for their research.
03:56They come up with a risky plan, that one of them will go through the teleportation process and record everything.
04:02They then ponder about it for a while, and Anna is chosen as the volunteer.
04:06She must really not want to go on that movie date.
04:09Afterward, the trio returns to the lab, and Anna prepares to go through the wormhole.
04:13Just before she does, she teasingly tells Nate that he owes her a movie date.
04:18He responds by giving her a sweet kiss and confessing his love for her.
04:22They then begin the teleportation process, and moments later, Anna disappears before their eyes.
04:28In the next scene, Anna wakes up in her bed feeling disoriented and unable to recall what happened.
04:33She heads to the university, where she encounters animal rights activists once again.
04:37One of them named James approaches her and tries to tell her about their movement.
04:40Anna responds that she supports his cause, but is not feeling well, and leaves.
04:45Following this, Anna heads to the lab, where she meets Liv and Nate.
04:48They inform her that they have lost computing capacity, and are back to testing with atoms.
04:53They also mention that she was supposed to conduct some tests, but for some reason, she can't remember.
04:58Anna is further surprised to learn that several days have passed since their experiment.
05:02She then asks if the experiment went well, but they don't provide a clear answer.
05:06Afterward, Anna calls her mother, and the two engage in casual talk.
05:10The latter mentions that she's moving home, and has found some of Anna's old belongings.
05:14She asks if she could send the items to her.
05:16However, Anna coldly responds that she doesn't need it, and tells her to give it to charity.
05:21Upon returning home, Anna finds her room in a complete mess, which scares her.
05:25She tries to calm down, but suddenly notices an intruder wearing a monkey mask.
05:29The person has stolen all of her scientific work, ID, and laptop.
05:33Anna pleads with him to take everything, but at least give back her work.
05:37But the thief doesn't care. He just says,
05:41Enraged, she begins tussling with him, causing both of them to fall out of a window.
05:45The thief then starts running away, and she chases after him.
05:47Their chase finally ends on a narrow street, where Anna once again pleads with him.
05:52Initially, the guy pretends to oblige.
05:54But then, he abruptly pushes her down the alley, knocking her unconscious.
05:58When Anna finally wakes up, it is already dark outside.
06:01She heads straight to the lab and tells Nate about the robber.
06:04However, he doesn't seem too surprised by the news.
06:06Anna then mentions that she's been feeling strange since the experiment.
06:10She has been experiencing constant headaches, and has trouble remembering most of her memories.
06:15But Nate assures her that everything is fine, and advises her to get some rest.
06:19The next day at the lab, Liv reveals that the cyber security experts have identified the virus they used.
06:24There will be an investigation, because the hacking is considered cyber terrorism.
06:28This makes the trio really worried, as they could be jailed if found guilty.
06:33Meanwhile, Anna begins to behave more and more abnormally.
06:36She doesn't eat anything, but appears to live well.
06:39She also takes notes, because she forgets things that happen on a daily basis.
06:43She's even started dating Adam Sandler now.
06:45In the next scene, Anna takes some blood samples and goes to keep them in the storeroom.
06:49However, she finds the door closed, which is strange, since it's usually left open.
06:54This makes her suspect that her friends Liv and Nate are plotting something, and trying to steal her project.
07:00They insist that she locked the door herself, and forgot.
07:03But Anna remains skeptical, and angrily leaves.
07:06Outside the university, she once again notices the activists protesting against animal testing.
07:10Anna spots someone wearing the monkey mask, and suspects it could be the robber.
07:14But as she looks around, she sees several people wearing the same mask, making her realize that it's a part of the protest.
07:21Just then, James approaches her and confronts her about her illegal experiments with animals.
07:25She is surprised, and threatens to call the police.
07:28But James doesn't seem to care, and warns her that she will pay for her actions.
07:32The next evening, Nate and Anna meet for dinner, and she wastes no time in asking what's happening with her.
07:38He insists that everything is fine, and tells her to stop accusing him and Liv.
07:42Nate reassures her that they are her friends, and only want to help.
07:46He then suggests that she write on her notepad to trust him and Liv.
07:49But Anna hesitates.
07:51She instead asks him to kiss her, if he's telling the truth.
07:54Nate refuses for some reason, which only increases her suspicion.
07:58Maybe the little branch they teleported was his penis after all.
08:02The next day, Anna arrives at the lab and asks for her camcorder.
08:05She wants to see what happened during the experiment.
08:08However, Nate tells her that it's at his home, because he's copying the videos onto his computer.
08:12He suggests that she should maybe talk to her mother and consider visiting her.
08:16Hearing this, Anna starts to freak out, and accuses them of trying to get rid of her.
08:21She strongly believes that they are attempting to steal her project, but vows not to let it happen.
08:26Later, the college dean gathers all the students for an important briefing.
08:30He informs them that a virus has infected hundreds of millions of computers,
08:34and its origin has been traced to their building.
08:37Now, a detective named Stovington has been summoned for the investigation.
08:41Upon hearing this, Liv and Nate are deeply concerned, because they could be facing jail time.
08:46They try to prepare Anna for the interrogation, but she doesn't seem to be interested.
08:50The next day, Anna is suddenly interrupted by Stovington.
08:53On her way to the university, he and his colleague then grab her, and take her in for questioning.
08:58During the interrogation, he mentions that he's not concerned about viruses.
09:01His real focus is investigating why someone would want to access 800 million computers.
09:06But Anna denies any involvement in the incident.
09:09She boldly states that she's a chemist, not a programmer.
09:12Later, when she returns to the university, she is cornered by the animal activists.
09:16They accuse her of illegal animal testing, and claim that they saw her bringing in a cat.
09:20They then try to attack her, but Anna somehow manages to escape.
09:24Following this, she goes to Nate's house with a gun, and breaks in through the window.
09:28There, she finally finds the camcorder recording of her experiment, and starts watching it.
09:33Everything seems to be fine in the video, and Anna is seen teleporting a few feet away.
09:38However, in the second attempt, she notices that when she goes through the wormhole,
09:42there is a brief moment where there are two versions of herself.
09:46Before Anna can process this information, Nate suddenly arrives home.
09:50He reveals that they have already explained the entire situation to her multiple times,
09:54but she keeps on forgetting.
09:56He then urges her to come to the lab with him, but she becomes aggressive and ends up shooting him.
10:00Fortunately, it's just a minor injury, but a terrified Anna runs away from there.
10:05Later, we see her in a panicked state, walking dazedly along the road.
10:08Liv finds her shortly after, and takes her back to the lab.
10:11To Anna's shock, Nate is already waiting for her.
10:14Seemingly fine, but a bit bloody.
10:16He then begins to tell her the truth about what actually happened.
10:19Nate explains that during their first teleportation experiment, Anna moved a short distance ahead,
10:24but the wormhole remained open for too long, disrupting gravity and data.
10:29Anna then used an electronic scale to rectify the problem.
10:32They connected the scale to the generator to measure mass input.
10:35On their second try, she went through, landed on the scale, and they quickly shut off the generator.
10:41However, during this attempt, another clone of Anna appeared and soon fainted, which scared everyone.
10:46Nate then reveals that she is not made of regular matter, but of light.
10:49Her weight is like that of a photon, because she teleported faster than light.
10:54This explains why she doesn't eat, and suffers from memory loss.
10:57This is also the reason why he hesitated to kiss her, as he was in a relationship with the actual Anna.
11:03Nate mentions that he's explained this to her many times before, but she keeps forgetting.
11:08Upon hearing all of this, Anna is shocked and cannot believe that it's true.
11:12She examines her blood sample under a microscope, but is surprised to find nothing.
11:17At this moment, the real Anna comes out of the storeroom, leaving her shocked.
11:21She confesses that she was the robber wearing the monkey mask, and had returned home to retrieve some documents.
11:27The three then inform Anna Photon that the algorithm has been rewritten, and she must go through the machine again to disappear.
11:34The poor woman refuses to accept this, and pleads with them to let her stay, even just in the small room.
11:40Liv and Nate explain that they've tried keeping her before, but it didn't work.
11:44Each day, she woke up without remembering the previous day, tried to escape, and eventually hurt everyone around her.
11:51In the end, Anna Photon finally agrees to leave, and asks them where she will go.
11:55They say that she will go nowhere, and disappear without a trace.
11:58Before leaving, Anna Photon calls her mother one last time, and expresses her love for her.
12:04It turns out that her mother had sent her a package containing tapes of her childhood memories.
12:08She plays them one by one, and bursts into tears.
12:11The clone then says goodbye to everyone, and bravely walks into the teleporter.
12:16The wormhole soon opens, causing her to disappear forever.
