00:03A Quiet Place Day One!
00:06Alrighty, ladies and gentlemen, I am Richard, this is Random Street Theater, and I have seen A Quiet Place Day One.
00:17I... have basically hated the Quiet Place movies up until this point,
00:22because I just find them too unrealistic.
00:25So here's A Quiet Place Day One, which is, of course,
00:28the initial attack of the deaf angels in the Quiet Place franchise.
00:36This is also directed by Michael...
00:40Sharansky, I think it is pronounced, and he also did Pig,
00:43which I did not see, but I'm... I'm told it was a great movie.
00:47And I... I have to say, out of all the three movies,
00:51this is my favorite, because it's the most realistic.
00:56I mean, you start off with this terminally ill woman, played by Lapita...
01:02I don't know how to pronounce it, it's Nyong'o,
01:05who is in Us and Black Panther, and, you know, it's like...
01:08She is a very quiet, unassuming person with deep emotional scars,
01:14and she's the walking dead. She's got terminal cancer.
01:17She's not gonna live that much longer, so it's her and her cat Frodo,
01:21and, you know, the great thing she has left to do in her life
01:26is get pizza at the place next to the club her old man used to perform at,
01:31and that's all she wants to do in life. That's it.
01:34If she does that, she's like, okay, I'm gonna die happy.
01:36I mean, I'm resolved. I know what's up.
01:39And then it's like, they convince her to go out into the city and do things.
01:43This is New York, of course, and New York is a loud city,
01:46so these deaf angel things would be in New York and just be like,
01:50I can't...
01:52That's what would realistically happen,
01:54but presumably if New York got hit by a meteor, it might quiet down a lot,
01:58so I guess that's kind of realistic.
02:01And so she goes out there, and then the things attack,
02:05and the rest of the movie is surviving,
02:07which is kind of silly when you have somebody who is already dead, you know?
02:13Like, some of us, we won every second, you know,
02:17and that's what death does to you.
02:19But look, my mother died of cancer,
02:21and I remember her coming home from the doctor and crying and crying
02:25because they said, you have two years to live.
02:28And this was like the third time they had said that to her,
02:31and every time she'd gotten better.
02:33So, I mean, she'd gotten to the point where it's like, look, you know,
02:38I can't take living like this anymore.
02:41And it's really, it's a painful way to live.
02:43So some of us won every second, and some of us are like,
02:46God, just make it stop.
02:49This is a make-it-stop kind of a person.
02:51Her life isn't very good, and, you know, she's got nothing to live for.
02:54So that's who she is.
02:56I will point out here, from a standpoint of just living,
03:01you know, Stephen Hawking said,
03:05wherever there is life, there is hope, okay?
03:07You ain't dead yet. You don't know what'll happen.
03:10So don't give up the will to live.
03:13That would be my advice to you, but that's not this movie, okay?
03:17This movie, I really like the sound design of this film.
03:20I didn't really remember a lot of music,
03:22but there's a lot of, you know, quiet moments.
03:24And one of the things I disliked about the film
03:27was you can't really hear anything.
03:28So this film would be better as a DVD watch,
03:31where you can turn up the sound and put the subtitles on
03:34and actually hear what's going on,
03:35which would be a lot better, in my opinion,
03:38but that's just me, and not a lot of people go to theaters anyway,
03:41so not a lot of business going on there.
03:45And, you know, the cinematography, I also feel,
03:48was a lot more artistic and a lot more directive.
03:51There are better angles. There's better use of light.
03:54There are dark, quiet moments in a dark, quiet story
03:58about a person who is already dead
04:01and deciding what to do with their last moments
04:04rather than a horror movie about monsters.
04:10So the creature feature is secondary to this story,
04:13and really it's this person who's just broken
04:17and deciding how they're going to fall,
04:19as opposed to it being this movie about monsters.
04:22So that, as an aspect, I actually enjoyed that.
04:26I'm not saying that I thought this was a great movie,
04:29but if you put a gun to my head and say,
04:31which one of these films are you going to watch again,
04:34it's A Quiet Place, day one,
04:36because the other Quiet Place movies were letdowns to me.
04:41I mean, it's like, you want me to believe
04:43that this is a world where you can't fart or you will die.
04:46And I mean, I have known too many men.
04:49We fart a lot.
04:51People would be dead.
04:53Every man on this planet would be dead within a week
04:56because it's just like, rawr!
04:58Oh, death angel.
04:59And then there's the assumption that, you know,
05:01the United States military doesn't have something
05:03that could take down these monsters.
05:07You know, it's like, okay, they can't swim.
05:10All right, so how about a water cannon?
05:14So obviously drowning will kill them.
05:16Water cannon?
05:18Maybe Halon units?
05:21Suck the air out of where they're in?
05:24Or have them chase a drone into the water, you know?
05:27It's just, it's one of those things you,
05:29these questions you keep asking yourselves of,
05:32okay, so why are these things,
05:34how could the military be taken down by this?
05:36Now, to be fair, it's entirely possible
05:40that the military never got taken down,
05:44and we're just dealing with a place
05:45where the military hasn't weeded the monsters out yet.
05:48But then, why would there be no sign of that?
05:52Now, another thing about this movie
05:54is there's this awesome dude
05:56who played General Crazy Dude in Rubble Moon.
06:00Like that guy, the guy with the shaved head
06:02and the awesome goatee.
06:04Yeah, he's in this movie,
06:05and apparently he's in the second Quiet Place movie as well.
06:08He's one of the dudes on the island.
06:10So it's like, yeah, there's some continuity here.
06:13This guy came from New York.
06:15I have a hard time believing New Yorkers
06:17would go down so easy, but hey, that's in this movie.
06:21So yeah, solid film, and you know what?
06:23IMDb is currently giving this a 6.8.
06:27Rotten Tomatoes gives it an 84%,
06:30which is neither here nor there,
06:33because it's Rotten Tomatoes.
06:34But audiences on Rotten Tomatoes are giving it a 73,
06:37which means, yes, it is definitely a strong film.
06:40And Fandango gives it a 74% approval rating.
06:44So across the board, this film goes high on the watch list.
06:49It is a solid film and worth watching.
06:52I personally thought it was okay,
06:56but you know what? I'm not the world.
06:58So I'm going to make that recommendation.
07:01Most people like this film.
07:03If you liked the first two movies, you will like this film.
07:06If you think hard, there are problems with it,
07:09but audiences aren't thinking anymore.
07:11So anyway, that's just my opinion,
07:13and I'd love to hear yours down in the comments below.
07:15I, of course, am Richard.
07:17Greetings, humans!
07:19Your old pal Randall here again,
07:21reminding you to comment, like, and subscribe.
07:23You see, I got my bracelets from Ferocian,
07:26and I got another, another medal from the Conqueror.
07:30Yeah, yeah, look at that, see?
07:32That's got an Easter Island head on it!
07:35Because if you can't afford to go to Easter Island,
07:39you can go and walk Easter Island virtually
07:43by going to the Conqueror.
07:45You could not screw up the environment
07:47by traveling to Easter Island.
07:50You could just get this, plant five trees,
07:53and then walk on your own
07:55and learn about Easter Island, because they send you postcards.
07:58And if you comment, like, and subscribe,
08:01you can help the guy that owns this channel
08:03buy things like this
08:05so he can plant trees,
08:07and buy bracelets like this from Ferocian
08:09so he can pull trash out of the ocean
08:11and make a better world for you!
08:13And it isn't gonna cost you anything!
08:15So, so don't you have something to say?
08:18I mean, shouldn't you in the comments down below
08:21say how grateful you are
08:23that this man has planted so many trees
08:25and pulled so much trash out of the ocean,
08:27and there are all those good things for you?
08:30No?
08:31Ungrateful human!
08:33I SHOULD EAT YOUR FACE!
