00:00This was in 1390 when the Ottoman Empire was at its peak.
00:06This was the place where the borders of two major states were meeting.
00:11One was the growing Ottoman Empire and the other was the Timurid Empire,
00:15whose Sultan was Amir Timur.
00:18The Ottoman Empire had spread to Europe
00:21and Sultan Bayezid needed time to manage and organize it.
00:27In the Ottoman Empire, there was another powerful state of the Turks,
00:31which is also known as the Karamanids.
00:34The Karamanids also had the prosperity of the Mamluk Sultanate.
00:38Bayezid Sultan married the daughter of the Karamanids,
00:42in view of the growing Kashmakash,
00:44so that the contacts could be used.
00:47Alauddin Ali Bey, who was the leader of the Karamanids,
00:50saw that Sultan Bayezid's eyes were still on Europe.
00:55He took advantage of this,
00:57and occupied some areas of the Ottoman Empire,
01:00including Jermian, which was a state of the Kurds.
01:07In which Bayezid became very angry
01:09and a war broke out between Alauddin Bey and Bayezid,
01:13in which Sultan Bayezid was victorious.
01:16It was possible that the Karamanid state would end,
01:19on which a new wave arose from Uzbekistan,
01:22which was a very powerful and dangerous army under the leadership of Ameer Taimur.
01:27Ameer Taimur was a warlord,
01:29who had taken Samarkand under his control,
01:33and he had spread his empire to 40 countries.
01:37It had become a powerful empire,
01:40but a big reason for it was fear.
01:43People were afraid of Ameer Taimur's brutality.
01:46Ameer Taimur would burn the city,
01:49and anyone who came in his way.
01:53He would burn the whole city,
01:55and throw children and old people into the burning fire,
01:58and leave them to burn for many days.
02:02When their fat would melt,
02:04he would use it as a fuel for fire,
02:07and build minarets for their skulls.
02:09This was the generosity of Ameer Taimur,
02:12which had become famous all over the world.
02:14Ameer Taimur's biggest weapon was fear.
02:17In 1399, the borders of the Timurid Empire joined the Ottoman Empire.
02:23Both the Ottomans and the Timurids knew that
02:26a very big war was about to break out soon.
02:29Before the war, some letters were exchanged.
02:33Ameer Taimur was conquering Muslim areas at that time,
02:37in which he had also captured Iraq.
02:40During these attacks,
02:42the prince of Iraq, Prince Tahir,
02:44went to the Ottoman Empire and asked for refuge.
02:47Sultan Bayazid gave him refuge.
02:50Similarly, some areas of Anatolia,
02:53which were ruled by the Ottomans,
02:55his Muslim leaders went to Taimur to seek refuge.
03:00Ameer Taimur gave them refuge,
03:02because of which the tension between the two empires was increasing.
03:08Ameer Taimur sent a letter to Sultan Bayazid,
03:11in which it was said,
03:13Keep the areas that you wanted to take from the infidels with you,
03:18but immediately return those areas to my leaders,
03:24otherwise I will break you like God's wrath.
03:28The Sultan of the Ottoman Empire was threatened,
03:32which no one could dare to do.
03:34On which Sultan Bayazid became very angry
03:37and cut the beards of the Qasids who brought the letter of Taimur.
03:42Then he insulted them and threw them out of the court.
03:46This reaction was very severe.
03:48Sultan Bayazid got the news that
03:50Ameer Taimur is going to conquer the Ottoman Empire with the Mamluk Sultanate.
03:56Sultan Bayazid sent a letter to Taimur,
03:59in which it was written that
04:01Since your unlimited greed has sunk into the pits of selfishness,
04:07it would be better for you to put down your arrogance.
04:12As soon as Ameer Taimur received this letter,
04:15he started the war.
04:17The Suleymanids, who were still fighting the Ottomans,
04:21secretly joined Taimur.
04:23Even the Byzantine Empire announced its decision to ally with Ameer Taimur.
04:29In 1401, the Taimurs besieged the region of Sivas of the Ottoman Empire.
04:35As soon as Bayazid heard about this,
04:37Sultan Bayazid sent his eldest son Ertugrul to the fort,
04:41on which the Taimur army was already stationed.
04:44As soon as Taimur heard about Ertugrul's arrival,
04:47he dug the foundations of the fort.
04:50Because of this, the walls of the fort fell,
04:53and Taimur captured the whole city.
04:57According to some historians,
04:59Taimur buried about 4,000 prisoners alive in the foundations,
05:04and Taimur also killed Bayazid's sons and chiefs.
05:08At this time, Sultan Bayazid was besieging Constantinople on the other side,
05:13when he heard about his son's death.
05:16Bayazid Sultan had no choice but to fight.
05:20In the hot weather of 1402,
05:23Sultan Bayazid led an army of 90,000 to attack Taimur.
05:29According to one estimate,
05:31there were more than 140,000 horse riders in the Taimur army,
05:36and there were also 32 war elephants.
05:38The number of Bayazid's army is said to be more than 85,000.
05:43Ahmed bin Arab Shah has claimed 8,00,000 Taimur troops,
05:48while a German witness claimed 1.6 million.
05:52In the Ottoman army, his sons included
05:55Daste, Ghazi, Janissaries, Anatolia's Muslim Jageer,
06:00and Mughal Europe, which also included Balkan and Christian Jageer.
06:05Among the Ghazibs of Serbia who took part,
06:08Dürer Brankovic, Vuk Lazarek and Albanians,
06:14Gregor Brankovic was also included.
06:17Sultan Bayazid set up a camp near Ankara in the field of Kubik,
06:23from where it was not easy to attack Taimur.
06:26Amir Taimur suddenly disappeared after seeing the army of Bayazid.
06:31Certainly, this was Taimur's trick,
06:33because Taimur was not getting a suitable place for the battlefield.
06:37Bayazid was informed on July 1402 that the army of Taimur had been found,
06:43but this became a disaster for Bayazid,
06:46because Amir Taimur turned from behind to Ankara and attacked Bayazid.
06:52On the battlefield, Taimur's army began to dominate,
06:56to the extent that Bayazid even sent a message of retreat to his son Bursa.
07:01Because Bayazid's army was tired,
07:04and more than 20,000 of his soldiers were exhausted due to water and hunger.
07:10As the attacks of the Taimur army increased,
07:13the Serbian army, which was under the protection of Bayazid,
07:16began to follow the son of Bayazid, Suleiman.
07:19Now Bayazid was in the field with his most reliable army.
07:24However, Bayazid's army was quite small, but it lasted for a long time.
07:29As the situation was getting worse,
07:32the Sultan saw that the Taimur army would soon gain control over them.
07:36Therefore, the Sultan began to flee from the war,
07:39and the Taimur army was conquered.
07:41But as soon as Bayazid was riding on his horse to flee,
07:45the Taimur soldier shot an arrow at the Sultan,
07:49which hit the horse of Bayazid Sultan.
07:52The horse fell, and so did Sultan Bayazid.
07:55And in this way, Bayazid became the prisoner of Amir Taimur.
07:59This was the worst defeat of the Ottoman Empire,
08:02which the Ottomans had never seen before.
08:05In this war, Bayazid's son was also in the captivity of Amir Taimur.
08:09But Taimur left Bayazid's sons so that they could accept Amir Taimur's superiority.
08:14Bayazid, whose power was on the whole of Europe,
08:17and all the great European powers exported him,
08:20the Sultan, while not tolerating his humiliation,
08:23died during his imprisonment.
