00:00That will be halftime, and what a golden race we have in store before we get to that chequered flag.

00:33It's lights out, and away we go. Lewis Hamilton moves over to George Russell,
00:38but he's already ahead is Russell, and will preserve that lead into Turn 1.
00:42Behind comes Lando Norris, then Max Verstappen and Oskar Piastri, the top five all streaming through,
00:47and now they can get the brakes on. Russell ahead of Hamilton, almost contact there as Lando Norris
00:52has to go off the road, Verstappen round the outside, might nick a place here.
00:56Piastri's waiting to pounce, Verstappen gets in the third, he's got past one Brit, two more to go.
01:01Yeah, that was a key move from Max Verstappen to put himself on the tail of Lewis Hamilton.
01:05No DRS rear wing until the end of lap 1, so it's all about slipstreaming, getting a good exit off the corners.
01:13And we know the battles continue throughout the first lap here, so onwards now through Luffield and onto Brooklands we go,
01:19and it's cops coming up next. George Russell leading his home Grand Prix from Lewis Hamilton, it's a Mercedes 1-2.
01:26Then comes Max Verstappen, Lando Norris, Oskar Piastri, then Carlos Sainz ahead of Lance Stroll,
01:31and Nico Hülkenberg has lost places on this opening lap.
01:35Norris struggling to get the tyres up to temperature on that McLaren, falling back a lot into the clutches of his teammate Oskar Piastri.
01:44So the McLaren is a bit kinder on tyres, we know, in the longer stints, but it may take a bit longer to warm those tyres up.
01:51It should come to them over the next couple of laps.
01:53I mentioned Hülkenberg had lost places, he's down in 9th, Charles Leclerc is up into 8th, Yuki Tsunoda up into 12th already,
02:00and Alex Albon down in 13th. Joe Guanyu gets past Daniel Ricciardo at 4th-14th,
02:05and I think Alex Albon has a puncture, or was reported a puncture, but he's carrying on,
02:10and there he is ahead of his teammate, Logan Sargent, the two Williams in 12th and 13th currently.
02:16Yes, it can't be too much of a puncture at the moment, as you see DRS now enabled,
02:21and he's carrying on at that pace and actually made the place back, but the rustle then leads from Hamilton.
02:27Hamilton having to put a lot of steering wheel in to correct the oversteer in Turn 4, the loop,
02:33and now you can see Lando Norris beginning to get some tyre grip and confidence from that McLaren.
02:40Brilliant start though for the two Mercedes, Russell and Hamilton out in front, separated by 6 tenths of a second,
02:45Hamilton trying to keep Verstappen at least a second behind him, so he is under threat with DRS.
02:50Alex Albon was reporting a loss of pressure, the team say no, you're absolutely fine, continue on your way,
02:55and now we're right on our way with Lando Norris towards Copse, swinging in at 160 miles an hour,
03:02he's got Max Verstappen ahead of him, he is chasing him just like he was last week.
03:06This right-hander now, but if Norris can stay in touch, he comes on to the hangar straight,
03:13his rear wing will be open, he's quite a long way back, but slipstream as well if he's kept his battery together, there he goes!
03:19Here he goes, Lando Norris past Max Verstappen and back up into third place, and Verstappen kept his line true,
03:26and Verstappen, Lando Norris, dived down the inside and that's gone down very well with the fans who stand to applaud that,
03:33that's brilliant racing from both drivers there, Verstappen just didn't have the pace though to defend against the McLaren,
03:39which is coming good once again!
03:41Norris was, as he was in Spain, really driving intelligently, moving out of the slipstream of the Red Bull,
03:48through Luffield and corners like that, kept himself in play, and then used all the tools available to him
03:54for a nice clean pass, and you have to say, Max was entirely correct in that manoeuvre.
04:02I think he gained about six-tenths of a second, did Lando Norris, on George Russell and Lewis Hamilton's lap time,
04:09with the DRS there, he's only about three seconds behind them, and I said the crowd were standing up,
04:13they'll continue to stand up as George Russell goes through and onto the old pit straight,
04:18and Lewis Hamilton follows him, and Lando Norris follows on behind, and it's Britain 1, 2 and 3 once again at the top,
04:25and Norris has already broken the DRS threat from Verstappen in fourth.
04:29Yeah, as I say, Lewis can read off the back, he's got the DRS wide open too!
04:35George Russell's vulnerable, George Russell's seen his Mercedes team-mate go into Stowe Corner and take the lead!
04:42It's been coming now for a lap, Lewis Hamilton, the new race leader at the British Grand Prix,
04:49swoops past George Russell and is revelling in these conditions!
04:53Yeah, he's got the confidence, he's got the grip, you can see how the car's snaking around
04:57as he's trying to apply the throttle, and now Russell will have...
05:01It's raining quite hard, isn't it? You can see the rain now.
05:04But it's trying to survive these conditions, and don't make any unnecessary pit stops,
05:08but both Mercedes going off there, leaving the track, coming back on,
05:13and as they come back on, Lando Norris is right on the tail of George Russell,
05:18and that in the background is Piastri going off too, and there is Lando Norris getting past the Mercedes!
05:25George Russell was leading this race when he last came on to the Wellington Straight, he's now third!
05:30Yeah, they both rejoined very unsafely.
05:32I don't know how else they could have rejoined, to be honest, and they kept to the left-hand side of the track.
05:36I know what Lando Norris is saying, but he's got the grip at the moment,
05:41and McLaren's suddenly looking handy, aren't they, in this situation?
05:46Right, DRS has been disabled because these low-grip conditions make it a little unsafe to have the DRS,
05:53but it looked boat-dry through Cots, it is a lot wetter in other parts of the track.
05:58And that's key, if you can keep tyre temperature...
06:00Somebody's gone very wide in the background there, what was that?
06:03It's just going through the S's.
06:05If you can keep tyre temperature through a third or half the track, you can survive the rest of it.
06:11It's when it's getting wet all the way around, you go more slowly, you lose temperature.
06:16As I said, every corner is a new adventure.
06:20Hang on, we've got Norris down the pit straight on Hamilton!
06:22Norris in towards Abbey, Lando Norris leads the British Grand Prix!
06:27It's swapping around, lap after lap.
06:29Hamilton struggling now and under pressure from his teammate, George Russell,
06:33and Oscar Piastri is right there to join in the fun.
06:37This is just brilliant at Silverstone, and Lando Norris is getting all the grip,
06:42Piastri's getting more grip too.
06:44George Russell goes wheel-to-wheel with the Australian and loses out at the top of the Wellington Straight.
06:50It's Norris, Hamilton, Piastri, Russell, as Charles Leclerc comes into the pits for Ferrari.
06:55I wonder if the McLaren's just a little bit softer on the suspension than the Mercedes,
06:59because the McLaren drivers are feeling more confident in the, this is genius race driving.
07:06Because now they're battling these Mercedes and seem to have the better conditions to do it.
07:10And for the lead of this race, and now Lewis Hamilton under pressure from Oscar Piastri,
07:15it's Norris in the lead, into Stowe we go, Piastri on the inside,
07:20it's a McLaren 1-2, as Lewis Hamilton has to make way.
07:25Yeah, no DRS, they say if it's slippery and it's more dangerous,
07:28then why let the cars go faster down the straight?
07:31Kind of rational, I guess.
07:33So that's why you're not seeing those rear wings opening in these conditions.
07:36Lando went wide through Magus, he's not having everything going his own way,
07:41but he is surviving out in front currently.

07:52Those critical dry areas where you can maintain some kind of temperature
07:56and where you would destroy the Intermediates.
07:58We've got Ocon and Joe Guainu out there on Intermediates and Perez.
08:02And Charles Leclerc on the Intermediate tyres too.
08:06The Ferrari taking a gamble and boxing early, as we saw in Canada.
08:10They took a gamble and boxed early for slicks and it didn't work out that day.

08:22And Hamilton might have had to just wait for the Sauber to get past.

08:40And they're pitting Piastri for a set of those mediums,
08:44the brand new mediums, which I would have thought are absolutely optimum now
08:49for the amount of time there is to the end of the Grand Prix.
08:52McLaren saved those for just such a moment.
08:56Piastri, a little bit longer in the box there than he would have liked.
08:59New mediums going on to his McLaren.
09:02Comes out in fifth place just ahead of Nico Hülkenberg.
09:06He couldn't have been stationary for much longer.
09:08He'd have lost a place there.
09:09Charles Leclerc has come in for a set of soft compound tyres.

09:15and he's currently making his way down the Hangar Straight.
09:19I watched the sector times because that could put Hamilton into the lead.
09:23Norris got a bit of traffic as well, but he's got to navigate around.
09:27It's just over 20 seconds for including the stop.

09:32You miss out the left and right, double right at the end, of course.

11:43And if I dare say it, a sixth of the best.
11:45This has been a tremendous performance today
11:48for the man who started on the front row for an 11th time here at Silverstone
11:53and is on for a ninth Grand Prix win at his home race.
11:58And a 15th consecutive, 15th Silverstone podium, a 12th consecutive podium.
12:04He is the man who raises the bar, who raises the stats,
12:07who takes things to stratospheric levels.
12:10And he's only got three corners now.
12:12He can see the crowd standing and giving him that round of applause.
12:17He is ready to kickstart the celebrations.
12:20Eight times we've said it before.
12:22Here's a ninth for you. Lewis Hamilton wins the British Grand Prix.

12:33Such difficult conditions kept it all pointing in the right direction.

13:09and take a victory in what is his 344th Formula One Grand Prix.
