00:00We'll be in the spotlight, Shakur Stevenson.
00:05Okay, the choice is good. Everything right here is all good. Everything right here is all good.
00:09Obey the commands at all times. Protect yourselves at all times. Touch them up. Let's go.
00:13Keith Colon won a National Golden Gloves silver medal.
00:19Won U.S. National Championship silver medal.
00:24He's from right here in Newark, making his pro debut.
00:27He's a student down the road at Rutgers, the state university.
00:35He's in with a southpaw test.
00:37Hunter Turbefill.
00:41Turbefill, he comes to fight. He's gonna bring the pressure all night.
00:44Young fellas gonna have to earn his money tonight.
00:47Colon, highly touted amateur.
00:55So you know he understands fundamentals.
00:58He understands how to deal with a southpaw.
01:01Having that lead foot advantage.
01:04Getting it outside of the southpaw's lead foot to be able to line up his right hand.
01:08And vice versa for Turbefill.
01:18Colon, very patient for a guy making his pro debut.
01:21Sometimes you see a guy in his pro debut out there just on the muscle right away.
01:27Yeah, you do. He's taking his time. He's well schooled.
01:31Of course, the amateur pedigree.
01:33Oh, he digs a left hand to the body.
01:35Yeah, that helps, but he wasn't an amateur long like a lot of the other top amateurs.
01:39So he didn't develop a lot of bad habits over the years.
01:43That's interesting to say that.
01:45He basically had about a 3-year range as a right hand from Colon.
01:49A 3-year range where he was on the national scene with the U.S. Nationals and the Golden Gloves.
01:54But to your point, because we always rave about the guys who have the deep amateur pedigree.
01:59But you say there's also some harm to that.
02:01Yeah, there is. I mean, you can develop bad habits in getting in that amateur system.
02:05But Colon has 77 amateur fights. That's enough. That's perfect.
02:09That's a perfect amount of fights. I had about 145 myself.
02:13Shakur around 150, which is not bad either.
02:16But wow, big shot.
02:18But he had a pro-style test, even in the amateurs.
02:24He's getting after it right now.
02:31Colon now switching Southpaw himself.
02:33Ooh, what a body shot.
02:35See, the young man already knows how to commit downstairs.
02:39Trying to wrap that right hand around again.
02:44Yeah, you know, it's really hard to really teach young fighters how to go downstairs.
02:49But again, as you can tell, well-schooled.
02:53He's always had a patient style, even in the amateurs.
02:56Watching him on film.
02:58He's always been a counterpuncher type, but an aggressive counterpuncher.
03:02He doesn't mind going to the action.
03:04He doesn't mind going towards danger.
03:08These are the fun type of fighters to watch.
03:10Guys that don't shy away from the action, but also are slick at the same time.
03:18And when I say slick, I just mean defense.
03:20Defense. Good defensive fighter.
03:22Heavy on the defense and the offense.
03:25Working hand-to-hand.
03:27Good opening round in the pro debut of Keith Colon.
03:31Our main event will feature this guy.
03:34Our Tim Hartoonian, Tim, is making his first attempt at a world championship.
03:39He's going up against the pound-for-pound elite Shakur Stevenson.
03:42But in spending a lot of time with him yesterday,
03:44we found him to be extremely focused and confident.
03:48Like, extremely.
03:50He says, listen, my mind is free.
03:52I always think positive.
03:54I always think about being very prepared.
03:56And he thinks all the pressure is on Shakur.
03:59No, he's right. All the pressure is on Shakur.
04:01Because Shakur's last fight, Shakur has to show up and show out.
04:03This is his hometown.
04:05Now, you know, Artem has fought six 10-round fights.
04:11He's fought two.
04:13This is going to be his third 12-round fight, Tess.
04:15And he has 12 fights, or 13 fights, let's say.
04:19He has experience, and he's a bronze medalist.
04:22This is no slouch.
04:23This is no cakewalk for Shakur Stevenson tonight.
04:26He was in against Frank Martin,
04:28who, of course, everybody recently saw against Tang.
04:31He was winning that fight.
04:33He was in control of that fight for the early part, for the middle part.
04:37And then he had a deal with Anai,
04:38was forced to take a knee in the 12th round,
04:40and that ended up being the difference.
04:41Well, he told us in a fighter meeting that he took that fight on short notice.
04:44He said that they called him out.
04:46It was about three weeks to a month before the fight actually happened.
04:49He said he never heard back from him.
04:51He said he didn't spar.
04:52He sparred one day for that fight.
04:54And then he says he gets to call the week of to go do medicals
04:57and to head out to, I believe, it was in Vegas.
05:00Was that a mistake, then, to take the assignment,
05:02or was the opportunity too good to pass up?
05:04Too good to pass up.
05:06Well, right now, Keith Colon is too good for Hunter Terbyfield.
05:11As Colon's staying right on top of him,
05:13digging to the body, as you noted early,
05:16and putting that guard up top as Hunter fires back.
05:22Yeah, that's one way to weaken your foe,
05:25is definitely go downstairs.
05:26And you're changing levels like that,
05:28that's going to open up the head.
05:31Oh, good body shot.
05:3321-year-old Colon from right here in Newark, New Jersey,
05:36sweeping to the body again.
05:38Just missed with the uppercut.
05:39Goes underneath with the left hand.
05:41Body work definitely doing damage there in the corner.
05:44Just beating the fight out of Terbyfield.
05:45Left uppercut lands clean.
05:47Beating the fight out of him, Tess.
05:49You can see the response from Terbyfield.
05:53He doesn't like those body shots when he goes down.
05:55Good combination.
05:56Right uppercut, left to the body.
05:59Great work from Colon.
06:01Six, seven, eight, nine.
06:06Walk over here.
06:07Walk over here.
06:08Come to me.
06:10You want to continue?
06:11Yeah.
06:12I'll give you a chance.
06:13Let's go.
06:17Still over a minute to go in round number two,
06:20and he's looking to win his pro debut in style.
06:24Another good left hand to the body.
06:26Drives down and over his leg.
06:27A series of right uppercuts.
06:30And this fight is over.
06:33Newark's very own Keith Colon, TKO victory.
06:50Tess, he's definitely one to keep an eye on.
06:52Remember that name, Keith Colon.
06:54Definitely one to keep your eye on.
06:57Student at Rutgers University.
07:00Had success in the amateurs.
07:03Turns pro here in his hometown.
07:051-0 with a TKO.
07:07You know, most people say, well, he's not fighting anybody.
07:09He wasn't.
07:10Terbyfield, no, no, no, no.
07:11It's how he did it.
07:12Tess, I always tell you that.
07:14It's how you do it.
07:15Oh, no, he passes the eye test.
07:16Of course he passes the eye test.
07:17And he was composed.
07:18And he put combinations together.
07:19Yes, yes.
07:20I mean, we don't know.
07:21We don't know until we know.
07:22But you made a statement that was true.
07:24But he made a statement.
07:25Yeah.
07:26No, no, no.
07:27But I'm just telling you.
07:28I know.
07:29I'm just telling you.
07:30It's how he did it.
07:31It is how he did it.
07:32How he set it up.
07:33Look at that shot down the center.
07:34And then come right up the middle.
07:35And again, nice little frame just to pop the head up of his opposition.
07:39But the inside work.
07:41Shortening his shots.
07:42Getting out of range.
07:43Looking nice.
07:44Uppercut.
07:453, 4.
07:46Uppercuts right there.
07:47Back down to the body.
07:48And he knew he had his man hurt.
07:49And he's got a pro style.
07:50He's got a pro style.
07:51Absolutely.
07:52No pity, Pat.
07:53Nope.
07:54No, he's in there to hurt you.
07:55Let's make it official.
07:56What do you say?
07:57Ladies and gentlemen, here inside the Prudential Center, Newark, New Jersey.
08:02Referee Sade Murdoch calls a stop to this bout at 2 minutes, 3 seconds of round number 2.

08:24Keith Tsunami Colon.
