01:34How did you get involved in this Big Rock in Rio thing?
01:36We heard about it while we were on the North American tour
01:40Doing the Painkiller tour
01:42Of course we knew it was gonna happen
01:44But it came out of the blue really
01:46That we were gonna be invited down here
01:48So we were just thrilled to take the opportunity
01:50To come to South America for the first time
01:52Because Priest has never ever been to this part of the world
01:55So it's a great way to bring Priest
01:57And bring metal and everything down
01:59Into a country on the first trip
02:01And we're really pumped for it
02:03It's a choice between us and Madonna

04:49This year has been kind of strange
04:51From things that in my opinion
04:53Borderline on being completely ridiculous
04:55Like the court case that everybody knows about
04:57And then also being nominated for a Grammy
04:59I mean those are definitely
05:01Two sides of the coin
05:03Grammy Priest, it's unbelievable
05:05Somebody needs to make up their mind about Priest
05:07Well we shouldn't play him
05:09Okay we'll play him, now let's nominate him for a Grammy
05:11I thought he was half a Grammy
05:13We're absolutely thrilled
05:16And delighted by being nominated
05:18Just itself
05:20It's a big honour
05:22We understand the value of having that nomination
05:24It's a great form of recognition
05:26And we've worked hard for it
05:28We won't be upset at all if we don't get it
05:30But it's great
05:32It's like the equivalent of the Oscars
05:34For the movie industry
05:36What the Grammys do for music is sensational
05:38And we're just really thrilled
05:40To be representing metal
05:42My mum thinks it's an Oscar
05:44Oh that golden guy
05:46I'd just like to thank everybody
05:48She says I can keep the job now
05:50Do you think that
05:52So now she's telling people what her son does
05:54Yeah before she always said
05:56Like every mother does
05:58Son why don't you come home and get a proper job

06:04Now do you think that rock and roll
06:06I mean when you look at the bands that are nominated for this Grammy
06:08They are definitely good heavy metal and hard rock bands
06:10It's not like
06:12You know some bands that they think are hard rock
06:14They're hard rock heavy metal bands
06:16Exactly
06:18We're not going to say any names
06:20About who won the first one
06:22I'm sure you guys all heard about that
06:24Do you think that rock and roll is getting respectability now
06:26It is yeah
06:28And I'm pleased that the Grammy people have suddenly realised
06:30That heavy metal is just as much right
06:32To be included with all the other people
06:34As everybody else you know
06:36And metal as you know
06:38Is a very big form of powerful entertainment
06:40Not just in the USA worldwide now of course
06:42But it's great for a band like Priest
06:44To see this kind of recognition
06:46Because when we first began in the 70's
06:48And first brought our music over to America in the 70's
06:50We were one of the first people to
06:52You know spread the gospel of metal
06:54And so now to see it gaining this recognition
06:56In 91 with the Grammy Awards
06:58Is a fabulous step up
07:00And it's the way in the right direction
07:02Definitely

07:30There's another Brazilian band
07:32I'm sorry I don't remember the name
07:34But Sepultura I've heard and they're good
07:36As I said earlier on this is the first trip
07:38That Priest has had the opportunity to make
07:40To this part of the country
07:42But we've been thrilled to see the amount of fans
07:44At the hotel
07:46And people with albums
07:48Albums from the whole Priest catalogue
07:50Of 14 albums
07:52And the other portions of the South American media
07:54I did an ID for an Amazon Jungle radio station
07:56So I mean
07:58This is how far we're reaching down here
08:00So you know it's fantastic
08:02And it's not just for Priest of course
08:04They're very strong and very powerful in South America
08:06So that's what's going to be so pumped up about this day
08:08Actually it's very interesting really
08:10Because you get a lot of bands here
08:12And you never get to hear them because they sing in Spanish
08:14We live in Spain
08:16Aggressive person
08:18You hold the knife to prove the point
08:20There are
08:22There are a lot of bands here that you just never get to hear
08:24Because they sing in a different language
08:26But they're very good bands
08:28And it's a shame really because it's a lot of talent
08:30They've got a slightly different angle to metal
08:32It's a shame
08:34They never get across
08:36A little bit like us really
08:38Yes we don't seem to stretch do we
08:40I want to ask real quick a question about the show
08:42I don't know what the rules are in Brazil
08:44But the Judas Priest show is definitely a show
08:46With a lot of pyrotechnics
08:48And a lot of excitement
08:50Certain countries you're not allowed to use pyrotechnics are you?
08:52Well I think it depends on the
08:54On the circumstances
08:56You know some people are paranoid about
08:58Even the word heavy metal
09:00And pyrotechnic together
09:02I think this is it you know
09:04Atom bomb revisited
09:06But I mean
09:08Fortunately the South Americans do like things to go off with a bang
09:10A big bang
09:12As you know from their annual carnival in Rio
09:14It's very uninhibited
09:16They're very risqué
09:18And they just like to go for a big time
09:20It's wild here
09:22So you know
09:24We're set to let off about
09:26150 pounds of gel ignite
09:28Explosive and bottle rockets
09:30And you name it we've got it
09:32We've just brought out the local firework department
09:34In Rio there's a big warehouse
09:36And we just spent a few thousand dollars
09:38On things that are going to blow up
09:40So we can hang with you guys at the show
09:42And take everybody else with us
09:44Sure we insist
