00:00Heavy metal and hard rock music have been accused of inciting and condoning action which
00:15goes against society's norms. In essence, our brand of music is said to be the cause
00:21of a large percentage of the social problems within today's world. Well, I'm here to tell
00:26you all that this is nothing more than an elaborate smokescreen. It's been constructed
00:31to divert attention from where it rightfully belongs. And that's with the politicians who
00:36mislead and the religious and social groups who work hard to reshape the world in their
00:42distorted images. The music of heavy metal and hard rock recreates life. Life with its
00:53good times and its bad times. And even though our brand of music allows us such freedom,
00:59we never condone every event or experience we touch upon. Why? Because the principle
01:05law of the hard rock and heavy metal cultures is caring. We care for our fans, we care for
01:13our society, and we care for what happens on this planet. I do hope that these conventions
01:19continue on an annual basis, and I also hope that they are recognized for improving the
01:24relationship between the artist and the recording industry. Thank you, enjoy the convention,
01:30God bless you, and God bless the United States of America. Thank you.
01:33The great thing about this foundation in the terms of it being a convention is that we're
01:50not all here to sell IBM computers to each other or anything like that, you know. We're here
01:54basically to come together and exchange lots of ideas about music, new bands, meeting producers
02:05and agents and record companies, record companies talking to each other about how they see metal
02:11and rock progressing, what they're going to do to give it the ability to be seen and explored
02:19by more and more people, the long-term picture, you know, what's going to happen over the next
02:25so many years left in this decade, the censorship issues, a whole bunch of subjects which make this
02:33foundation and this convention extremely unique to anything else that happens in America on that
02:38level, and I think it's a wonderful thing to be a part of. It's the first time, not only for Scott,
02:45but the first time since we played last year up in Portland at the end of the Rambit Down Tour,
02:49first public performance, so we shall all be a bit like this before we go on stage because we
02:54still get nervous even after all these years, so we're looking forward to it. It's exciting to play
02:59to a lot of people that are your friends and a lot of people in the business that you have a good
03:08relationship with, and it's just a fun thing to do. There's probably, hopefully, there's no pressure
03:15to it. I mean, you just hope that you, you know, you remember the words and the guitar lead don't fall out.
03:20That's all that matters.
