Vice President Harris spoke at the Essence Festival in New Orleans and focused on the threat of Trump winning reelection rather than concerns about Biden's viability. She warned that Trump has expressed wanting to be a "a dictator on Day 1" if elected to a second term. Biden won 87% of the Black vote in 2020 but Trump is hoping to make inroads with polls showing him winning over 20% of Black voters. Harris is seen as the likely successor if Biden dropped out but she has defended Biden and ignored calls for her to replace him on the ticket.
