00:00So the left then wants to run France's new government. It did come out on top in this
00:05weekend's legislative elections here. The centre though of President Emmanuel Macron,
00:09who gets to decide who is Prime Minister, came second and some of the group are already saying
00:14the left cannot impose. As yet, no word from Macron himself. Will he follow tradition and
00:20appoint a Prime Minister from the largest group or will he try alternatives, thereby angering
00:25the left? That is the complication here, heralding a potential period of possible gridlock ahead.
00:30It comes though as France's new lawmakers have been arriving at France's National Assembly and
00:35our reporter Luke Brown is there for us. Luke, bring us up to date over the last hour. I gather
00:41some more of the lawmakers have been arriving. It's the Greens, wasn't it?
00:46Yeah, you're quite right. It's the Greens that are the first to arrive in a group today on Tuesday
00:52at the National Assembly. They've just had their family photo taken. They've of course got 33 MPs
00:58deputies elected following Sunday's elections. That's an increase on 10 on 2022, so clearly
01:03a degree of satisfaction there for the Green Party. We've just got Sandrine Rousseau along
01:08from here addressing the media, so we'll see if we can get a word from her later.
01:11Some of the MPs that we were speaking to as we raised the question of who is going to be
01:15the next Prime Minister of France really insisted on the responsibility that they've been handed by
01:21following those elections but also the need to take the time. A lot of them saying there's no
01:25need for precipitation. We know of course many of the figures are trying to make it last at least
01:30until the end of this week before they announce a prime ministerial candidate. Others are saying
01:35it could even take some of the socialist MPs that we spoke to earlier saying it could take
01:38even longer than that through the summer, so clearly those discussions remain ongoing. Those
01:43are the discussions that we know the party leadership has been holding with the other
01:47leadership figures from the other members of the new Popular Front, Marine Tendelier,
01:53for example, of the Greens was meeting with the other leadership figures on Monday night.
02:00Speaking of some of the other arrivals, it's not just the Greens that we've been speaking to. We
02:03also saw a bit of an old war horse from the Communist Party, André Chassaigne. He said
02:10that the candidate that he, as a member of the Communist Party which is a member of the new
02:15Popular Front that they want to bring, the candidate they want to be the prime minister,
02:20he says has to bring together the voters. That perhaps might be something of a message
02:25directed towards the hard line left of the new Popular Front and that is of course the
02:32France Unbowed movement of Jean-Luc Mélenchon. Now the Greens and the Communists, they are the
02:36junior members of this left-wing alliance. We're expecting perhaps the bigger figures,
02:43the bigger parties to arrive soon. The France Unbowed are expected in the next hour here at
02:49the National Assembly and the Socialist Party are the moderates these days of that left-wing
02:53alliance. They're expected here to arrive as a group for that family photo this afternoon.
