00:00Outgoing NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has met with U.S. Secretary of Defense Laird
00:07Osteen at the Pentagon.
00:09The meeting on Monday came as this week's three-day summit marking the 75th anniversary
00:14of the NATO alliance begins.
00:17Both defense chiefs vowed to further build upon continued progress amid unprecedented
00:23challenges as Russia continues its war in Ukraine.
00:27In Ukraine, Russia continues its brutal war.
00:31Only today we have seen horrendous missile attacks against Ukrainian cities, killing
00:38innocent civilians, including children.
00:41I condemn these heinous attacks.
00:45At the summit, we'll make decisions to further strengthen our support to Ukraine, and Russia
00:51must understand that they're not able to wait those out.
00:55They need to sit down and accept a solution where Ukraine prevails as a sovereignly independent
01:00nation.
01:01The summit is the last for Jens Stoltenberg, who will step down later this year after a
01:06decade in the role.
01:07While the NATO chief shows off some of his own achievements, Washington remains troubled.
01:12Concerns are mounting at home and abroad over a potential NATO's skeptic Trump presidency.
