Keegan Bradley as Ryder Cup Captain: A Bold Change

00:00It just seems to be not a whole lot of change over there and the Americans seem to have
00:06to be playing a little catch up and figuring it out as they go, because I think they had
00:09Tiger Woods penciled in to be the captain for this Ryder Cup.
00:13And once he turned it down, they didn't have a succession plan that just made perfect sense,
00:19which is why I think you saw them go with a player like Keegan Bradley, who obviously
00:24has tons of love for the Ryder Cup and just is an absolute animal when it comes to competition
00:34that you know he's not going to really just leave any stone unturned.
00:40He's going to go all in in every single aspect of trying to make sure he has the best team
00:43possible to go and win in New York.
00:47And you know, Charlie, that Keegan's going to be unreal on TV for that.
00:52He's going to be very energetic with the crowds, I guess you could say, for how he's
00:58going to kind of handle it at Bethpage.
01:01But this is all assuming this report is right.
01:03You assume that it is.
01:04It's the same information I heard as well.
01:07So I'm super happy for Keegan.
01:09I know he'll be an incredible captain if that is true news.
01:14Yeah, man, if he does indeed bring Phil back into the fold, I mean, that in and of itself
01:20is a whole other topic to unpack because it's like one or the other, right?
01:24Well, I mean, in essence, it would represent a bridging an attempt to bridge that gap.
01:28I don't know how guys on that team would receive that decision.
01:32But having Bill and Keegan on the leadership, you know, in the leadership group at Bethpage
01:37Black would be playing to the New York crowd in spades.
01:41I mean, that's about as good as you can do if you're trying to kind of get that crowd
01:44going and get some guys there really feel like they can be good spiritual leaders.
01:47And I think that, you know, as we sit here, to your point, does do the Europeans kind
01:53of have the edge on paper, maybe a little bit, but just think about where we were after
01:57whistling straights where we're like, we're going to go in and bow race him in Rome.
02:00So I'm going to be a competition.
02:02And the way those tides sort of turned in the months leading up, I think anything can
02:07happen between now and then.
02:08And I think that there are some big, big decisions to make if Keegan is indeed the captain about
02:13who he's going to take for this team.
02:15If a captain's pick situation doesn't change, because we heard rumblings about that after
02:19the way the last team was picked, you know, I think that there is an opportunity to do
02:24what Luke Donald did with the Luby go bear with a Nikolai Hoyt guard, because I mean,
02:31some of the names you listed are still young in a vacuum.
02:34And by the way, make me feel old that they're on the older side of young, like the Zalators
02:38isn't this to hit the goals, but I mean, think about how Davis Thompson is young in comparison
02:44to like, if I, if I'm sitting in Keegan shoes, I got to consider Gordon sergeant, Nick Dunlap.
02:51I mean, I, I mean the way these guys are playing now, I mean, we've got to see more from these
02:55guys, but look at the way Michael Thorpe, you're on some play this last week, Luke Clanton,
02:59Jackson coven.
03:00I mean, there, that's a whole thing I want to kind of dig into with this John Deere classic,
03:04but there is so much impressive American talent right now and guys that are not afraid of
03:10the moment.
03:11And so you're going to a hundred percent leave some of those guys out, but I would love to
03:16see a risky captain's pick or two on a guy that is either freshly pro.
03:22I mean, an amateur pick would be insane.
03:23I don't even know the rules around that if he can do something like that, but I mean,
03:26there is so much good young talent that we just watched Luke Clinton back-to-back top
03:3110 and two tour events.
03:32I know not the strongest field, but still to be able to go out there and do that, that's
03:36a type of player that I want to see kind of bedding into Ryder cup experience and becoming
03:40a stalwart on this team for years to come.
03:43And you know, it always ends up where there are too many, you know, not enough spots,
03:46too many good players, but we have some really good, a really good stable of talent that
03:51he could really say, Hey, look, we're going to go in the next generation.
03:54The same way that the Europeans did that in Rome and succeeded by doing it.
