00:00Our rangers can see by the way the grass is flattened that the elephants are very close by.
00:06Let's go.
00:18It's just a glimpse of this elephant.
00:20They immediately knew that their people are coming.
00:23They know what the rangers smell like.
00:25They know what the rangers intentions are.
00:27This is not for the faint hearted having the job of chasing elephants through the stick brush.
00:32These are animals that are 6 or 8 tons.
00:34They could just squash you with no effort at all.
00:37You can hear them moving through the brush in front of us here.
00:40You can hear the leaves scraping against their bodies.
00:49You can see it's walking.
00:52In this thick bush all you can see is the top of their backs.
00:55But there's just a couple of bulls moving through here.
00:58This is the third group of elephants we've seen in one day.
01:01You can see why these people hate the elephants.
01:13I can see the top of this one's back.
01:22There's three of them.
01:23They've just come from that crops over there on the way to this other field.
01:27These elephants just seem to bounce from one crop to another.
01:31Tonekas is going to stay here and direct us.
01:33And we're going to go ahead and actually fire a firecracker over these elephants and chase them out of these fields.
01:52Okay, they're firing another firecracker.
01:54If that doesn't chase an elephant, nothing will.
01:57It just won't chase me.
01:59Okay, there they go.
02:00They're running like anything.
02:11You travel the world and you look at different conservation solutions.
02:14And this really is a very simple one, inexpensive.
02:16And these elephants are going to associate this place with bad things.
02:19These elephants are going to associate this place with bad stuff from now on.
02:22I mean, we fired three or four of these over their heads.
02:24They took off like their hair was on fire, literally.
02:27And so I think they're probably still running away from these people and their crops.
02:31So that's a good thing.
