00:00Now, for the best part, Pierre Lombard is an expert on turtles, and he has been monitoring
00:07turtles' nesting on these beaches for over 30 years.
00:12He's the only person allowed to drive his car on the beach, and he's going to take me
00:15to look for some nesting females.
00:17Well, hello, Mr. Pierre.
00:18Hi, Brooke.
00:19How are you?
00:20Yeah, no, good and welcome.
00:24And the tide is on our side, so it's low tide now, so I'm glad you're here so that we can
00:29start going and look for the turtles.
00:31Oh, I'm so excited.
00:43We've got a headlamp, we've got the book, we've got the tagging tool, and we've got
00:48your brains.
00:49Yes.
00:50Okay, Brooke, so these are the tracks of the loggerhead.
00:59So I think we must take the tagging tool, and then we follow it, and we see if the turtle
01:04is busy laying the eggs, okay?
01:06Okay, let's do it.
01:07All right, let's go.
01:08Okay.
01:09Wow.
01:10So she's got no tag on.
01:11Okay, the tag is in.
01:12So what's she going to do now?
01:22She's going back.
01:23She's done now.
01:25She just wants to get over this hill of sand, this dune.
01:31She didn't lay her eggs, although we tagged her.
01:34That's the important part.
01:35We need to identify this turtle in the years to come, and disturbing her is not the end
01:42of the world.
01:43She will go back into the ocean, and even tonight, we will maybe find her on our way
01:48back in the same study areas.
01:51All right, now it's time to measure her.
01:58Okay.
01:59Okay, let's write that all down.
02:04Now, the size is very important to establish the growth.
02:09Only put the date, and the time, and the GPS we can do in the car.
02:16We've just tagged this amazing loggerhead turtle.
02:19She's about 18 years old.
02:21She hasn't laid her eggs yet, but she's probably going to go back into the ocean, up the current
02:26a bit, then maybe we'll see her later in the night.
02:31Mr. Pierre has told me that the turtles love it when you tickle them on the neck.
02:35And look, they really do.
02:41She's done with her tickles, and ready to go back into the ocean.
02:51Well, she's got a few more meters, then she'll be back in the ocean.
