00:00Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the Top 10 Banned Kids
00:16TV Shows.
00:20For this list, we'll be looking at children's TV shows that riled up more than a few feathers.
00:25Do you think that these shows deserve to get banned?
00:27Let us know in the comments!
00:3010.
00:31Scooby-Doo Franchise
00:43Chinese children may be able to eat Scooby snacks, but they can't watch the Scooby gang
00:47cruise around in the mystery machine.
00:48In 2008, the Chinese government banned numerous cartoons, including a sponge who lives in
00:53a pineapple under the sea.
00:59Scooby-Doo and SpongeBob SquarePants were taken off the air in an effort to promote
01:03local Chinese cartoons.
01:04While it's admirable that the Chinese government wants to support their local artists, their
01:09exact reasoning for the restrictions was never made clear.
01:12If a show as innocent as Scooby-Doo is banned, just how innocent are Chinese cartoons?
01:179.
01:18The Loud House
01:19Now, I know what you're thinking.
01:20Lincoln, what's the big deal?
01:21Let me explain.
01:22See, sleepovers in the Loud House have not always gone so well.
01:23Being the
01:45middle child is not easy.
01:47It's especially difficult when you're the middle child and the only son among eleven
01:50children.
01:51Loud House has been a hit since it first aired on Nickelodeon due to its premise. It's
01:55also been hailed for featuring the first married gay couple in a Nicktoon. However, Howard
02:00and Harold have not been embraced everywhere.
02:18The series was banned in Kenya by the Kenya Film Classification Board for disturbing content
02:23glorifying homosexual behavior. Kenya isn't the only country to have had concerns about
02:28the show. In the U.S., the One Million Moms division of the American Family Association
02:33called for the couple to be removed from the series.
02:438. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
02:55Mostly remembered for being oh-so-90s and oh-so-campy, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
03:00was surprisingly controversial. During its run, multiple complaints regarding the show's
03:05violence were submitted in the U.S., Canada, and New Zealand. Yet, that's not why the
03:09series was initially banned in Malaysia. The Malaysian government thought that the
03:13word morphin sounded a bit too much like morphine and that a series for children should not
03:17be associated with that drug. Eventually, the phrase Mighty Morphin was censored. Since
03:27it wasn't the content of the series but just the phrase Mighty Morphin that bothered
03:31the censors, the 2017 film, simply titled Power Rangers, was deemed acceptable.
03:437. Cow and Chicken
03:48Who knew that as siblings with human parents, a cow and a chicken could get into so much
03:52trouble? Cartoon Network's Cow and Chicken, which aired in the late 90s, ended up banned
04:07in India. The series was known for its gutsy and adult humor, including a problematic episode
04:12featuring a group of female bikers that some thought went too far. But the ban in India
04:26came about for a totally different reason. Many Indians are Hindus, and a key belief
04:30in Hinduism is that cows are a sacred animal. Since cow was stripped of any dignity she
04:35once had, the show was seen as offensive.
04:426. Malcolm in the Middle
04:47Before he was the one running the streets of Albuquerque, Bryan Cranston starred as
04:50the oddball-loving father of the title character on Malcolm in the Middle. The series was hailed
05:08as being ahead of its time with many bits that are now common in most sitcoms, such
05:11as cold opens, breaking the fourth wall, and fast editing. But the content of the show
05:15made it too far ahead of its time in Malaysia. The comedy was banned because the government
05:23felt it contained violent and sexual content for school-age children and offensive depictions
05:28of antisocial behavior.
05:335. Winnie the Pooh Franchise
05:38It's hard to imagine this willy-nilly silly old bear offending anyone, but Winnie the
05:53Pooh has managed to get himself banned in China. Pooh and his pals' TV shows and movies
06:02are not welcome there, but his books and his two-themed rides at Disneyland Shanghai are.
06:07So what exactly did Pooh do? He's actually become a symbol of anti-communist resistance
06:11as a series of memes began in 2013 comparing China's leader Xi Jinping to the tubby little
06:17cubby. Jinping did not like how the Pooh memes questioned his authority. We assume this means
06:21that the next Winnie the Pooh film will not involve the Great Wall of China.
06:254. Hey Arnold
06:37Move it, football head, may have been the exact words the Kenya Film Classification
06:41Board said when they first watched the beloved Nicktoon Hey Arnold. While most of us remember
06:45Hey Arnold for its diverse cast and heartfelt plots, the show never aired in Kenya. It was
06:54banned for two reasons, the inclusion of a quote-unquote LGBT agenda and because Arnold's
07:00very phallic. You heard that last part right. In one episode, Kenyan officials complained
07:13when his grandfather stood next to a poster that said Try My Sausage, believing that this
07:18was too sexual for children and here we are thinking that the show's biggest controversy
07:35was the revelation that it doesn't take place in New York City.
07:383. Peppa Pig
07:48Just because the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson loves Peppa Pig doesn't mean that everyone
07:52does. Much like Winnie the Pooh, Peppa Pig has been banned in China because she is seen
08:03as a way to rebel against the government there. A number of tattoos featuring Peppa as well
08:07as adult images flooded Douyin, a popular Chinese social media site. While the series
08:12isn't completely banned in Australia, one episode is. In the season one episode, Mr.
08:16Skinnylegs Peppa befriends spiders. While this is fine and dandy in merry old England,
08:21getting close to spiders is far more dangerous because, like many animals in Australia, there
08:25are many spiders that can kill you.
08:292. Steven Universe
08:34The creators of Steven Universe truly believe that love is love. The groundbreaking series
08:38included the first same-sex marriage proposal to be shown in a cartoon. Not everyone loved
08:58how inclusive the universe of Steven Universe is. Just as they had with previous shows,
09:02the Kenya Film Classification Board banned Steven Universe for glorifying homosexual
09:07behavior. There was no way for the series to be censored, as the writers specifically
09:25incorporated the LGBTQ plus relationships and characters in a way that censoring them
09:31would lead to confusion. Hopefully one day the Kenyan government will change their mind
09:35and reverse this decision.

10:041. Pokemon
10:07Surprisingly, Saudi Arabia did not ban Pokemon because certain episodes apparently cause
10:11seizures. No, it's because Pikachu and his fellow pocket monsters promote evolution and
10:16gambling, which the Saudi Arabian government stated is not allowed in the Quran. Since
10:26Saudi Arabia's laws go hand in hand with those written in the Muslim holy text, Pokemon
10:30ended up getting the boot. Turkey later banned the show for a very different reason. After
10:40parents claimed that the series caused their children to engage in dangerous behavior,
10:44the Turkish government did not want more children to risk hurting themselves, so the series
10:48was taken off the air.
