00:25It is expected that there will be a shortage of water in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

00:36A clean and sufficient supply of water,
00:39that is what President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. insisted,
00:42along with the formal opening of the impounding process of Upper Wawadam in Rodriguez, Rizal.
00:47According to the President, this is a big help in the supply of water not only in the area,
00:52but also in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
00:55The dam that supplies water to the 14 million population in Metro Manila and nearby provinces is especially difficult.
01:04This significant milestone marks the completion of the construction of the dam component of Phase 2
01:10of the Wawa Bulk Water Supply Project.
01:14The Upper Wawadam will be the biggest water source to be built in the country in over 50 years,
01:21next to the Angat Dam.
01:23Having been accomplished a year ahead of schedule,
01:26this monumental development has set a new standard
01:30for infrastructure projects of similar magnitude in terms of scale and impact.
01:36The President's point is that the supply of water from the Wawa Bulk Water Supply Project
01:41is expected to increase the supply of water to 438 million liters per day from the previous 80 million liters only.
01:49It is time for the Upper Wawadam to be fully operational before the end of 2025.
01:55According to the President, this can be added in the coming years
01:59that it can reach 710 million liters per day.
02:03These 438 to 710 million liters per day translate to supporting the water supply needs
02:11of about 2.2 to 3.5 million Filipinos in the MWSS service area.
02:19This dam will also foster climate resilience amongst our people
02:24by protecting our communities downstream from flooding
02:28and by mitigating the detrimental effects of drought.
02:31The Executive Board of Wawa Bulk Water Supply Project also agreed
02:34that this project is part of the government's continued efforts
02:37to build infrastructures in various parts of the country
02:41to have a reliable water supply.
02:44This has been made possible thanks to the help of the private sector.

02:52encouraged dam operators to maximize their dams in the country
02:55not only in the use of water but also in the generation of renewable energy.

03:05so that the water supply of irrigation, power generation, flood control, and aquaculture can be assured.
