A visit to Paphos Cyprus in April 2024
Transcript
00:00I can't think of a better place to start to visit the Paphos than the brand new bus station
00:18which has literally been open for three days.
00:21It's adjacent to the archaeological site and the car park and almost to the end of the
00:28park is the famous castle.
00:40It's a relatively short walk to the harbour front with its cafes, restaurants and shops.
00:51Time for a walk along the harbour to check out the restaurants for lunch and see what
00:57is different from the last time we were here.
01:00Fishing boats are always interesting too.
01:21The red pipes for the firefighting system are quite striking for it's shielded out weather
03:56The statue is called Sol Altar, it's a tribute to Aphrodite and she faces the direction of
04:04Petra to Romeo.
04:18The view from our balcony overlooking the rear garden and the infant school.
04:48Agios Yorgos Pagaios, a quiet little place that still doesn't get too crowded.
06:19The island is Uranissos, uninhabited since the 15th century.
06:28It's interesting to note that there's an altar on the island built by Cleopatra to
06:35commemorate the birth of her son Julius, who later became Julius Caesar.
06:46The church of Agios Yorgos, after which this area is named.
06:54A visit to Latsi on the north coast, which is sometimes pronounced and spelled Lachi.
07:23Latsi is on the last part of the north coast which is still controlled by the Greek Cypriots.
07:53A look at the marina, it wasn't so long ago that Latsi was just a small village with
08:23a collection of restaurants on the side of the beach, but now look at the developments.
08:29Over the years we've watched them build the marina, starting with the harbour wall,
08:35gradually adding the infrastructure, it's been interesting.
08:53Trudos, a wintertime ski resort, a summertime watering hole and place of respite from the
09:08worst of the summer heat.
10:52A whistle stop visit to Kurien beach.
11:23A visit to Romeo or Aphrodite's Rock, where legend has it that Aphrodite first came to
12:14the island.
12:17You mustn't forget the other famous legend, that any woman that swims around the rock
12:33three times naked at midnight will achieve eternal youth.
12:52A flying visit to Pasuri jetty.
13:13A visit to the famous Bahia sea caves.
14:13A rather short visit to Coral Bay, we had planned to go and have lunch but we had forgotten
14:28that it was Easter day and everything was closed.
14:41Let's have a look around Paphos harbour.
15:11Lyris street, the large building used to be Woolworths, this restaurant used to be Gorgona.
15:26We have to find something to drink.
15:57The local garden school are having an outing.
16:09A look at the junior harbour master sitting in the kiosk and enjoying himself.
16:26We have no idea who is being interviewed for TV or why.
