Transcript
00:00I've been passionately talking about gut health for over a decade,
00:04but it is in more recent years where the topic has become a lot more mainstream.
00:08Many people are aware of the benefits of looking after their gut health,
00:12but many more people are confused about the amount of information
00:15and simply don't know where to start.
00:17This is why I'm leading a masterclass for the evening standard
00:21on how to look after your gut.
00:23We'll be exploring what the gut actually is
00:26and the many systems that it influences,
00:28and I'll be providing science-based practical guidance
00:32on how to optimise your gut health.
00:34In the meantime, here's three of my top tips.
00:36Number one, aim for diversity of plants.
00:40Including a colourful variety of plants in the diet
00:43provides crucial sources of fibre and polyphenols
00:47that help to feed our gut microbes.
00:49Think eat the rainbow as an analogy.
00:51Number two, hydrate well.
00:53The gut is a thirsty organ after all,
00:55and even mild dehydration can impact on the regularity of our poops.
00:59So with this in mind, start the day with a large glass of water.
01:03And lastly, rest and digest.
01:04Taking time to chew your food thoroughly
01:07can alleviate some of the more common digestive complaints.
01:10Remove all devices at mealtimes
01:12so that you can fully concentrate on the process of eating.
01:15I hope you've enjoyed these quick tips,
01:17and if you want to learn more on how to look after your gut,
01:19please join the class on the 17th of July.
